It looks like there will be at least one thing of interest at The Game Awards show on December 6th, hosted by Geoff "Dorito Pope" Keighley. Obsidian is teasing a game reveal and it's most likely the RPG spearheaded by industry veterans Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. The teasing comes in the shape of a couple of faux ads, one for Auntie Cleo's (general goods store?) and one for Spacer's Choice (gun shop?).

Visit Obsidian.net (.net – haha, losers) and take part of this super-fun marketing ploy.
Also, according to this tweet from the Pope himself, the game will be published by Private Division. Maybe this wasn't news but I've never heard of them before.
Shameful update: Apparently the publisher was not news, I just forgot about this piece of news from a year ago. Hell, we've even had a gander at the game's possible title!

Smart marketing move to do the announcement at Doritos Show. But I hate teasers like this. Just surprise everyone by releasing a full trailer and say it'll be out in a couple of months.

Retro space opera !? I'm in anyway.

Has anyone noticed that Leonard doesn't speak and Tim refers to Obsidian as "them"?

They are not happy about MS's acquisition of Obsidian and if this game has success then they will own the IP and then they can leave Obsidian.

The next xbox will just be a streaming box. They'll call it Xbox Stream, Xbox Flow, Xbox Piss or something.

Anything is possible, but given the information we have right now I'd lean against this game's release schedule having anything to do with the next Xbox or anything like that. It's been in development for a while already and it's not Microsoft's game.

bet your fucking LIFE it will be geared towards consoles (shoulder cam, geometric shapes replacing numeric values, etc.)... it's OBVIOUS. You are the news poster, you of all people should know

They literally said in an interview mainstream success is their goal

A year ago (!) I wrote this about Tim's and Leonard's upcoming "dream game"

  • it will be a 3rd person RPG in realtime
  • brand new IP
  • post-apoc and/or steampunk
  • will target consoles as well
  • they want it to be a mainstream success as well as a respectable RPG in a classic sense (impossible in my book but w/e)
  • it wont be crowdfunded
  • Unreal Engine 4 most likely

Literally the only good news is that Sawyer (Infinitron's dominus) wont be a fucking lead

Obviously it will be a multiplatform/console game. That's never been in doubt.

I assumed you posted those links to imply that the game would be a launch title on the next Xbox.

I'm sure this will be a disaster, but congratulations to Obs for carving out a familiar-yet-unique niche. I cant' recall any recent raygun gothic space games. It's Bioshocky. It's Fallouty. But in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace.

Doubtful of this being 3D. Obsidian can barely manage a pseudo-2.5D isometric release like PoE. Imagine the bugs in this monstrosity if they overestimate their abilities and try to swing for a popamole home run.

Having said that, there's still hope it comes out good. Tim's Reboot talk ("Hey guise, fuck the words I liek shapes nao!") doesn't really inspire much confidence, but, we'll see... we'll see.

Maybe the old farts have one good game left in them.

Don't let me down, Tim! I still have a Troika poster in my room!
