The development of The Outer Worlds began in early 2016, and there are indications that it may have been planned as early as late 2015. Yet the desire for a Fallout: New Vegas successor from Obsidian goes back much earlier than that. I've always thought it was crazy that they weren't immediately picked up to make another game of that type, and it's sort of tragic that having taken so long to finally arrive it's now seen as a kind of throwback retro experience. Over the past three days The Outer Worlds has been streaming all over the place, the Take-Two marketing machine finally roaring to life. The masses are aware, and we shall soon know whether the cult of New Vegas is still strong.

The Outer Worlds is available for purchase for $60 on the Epic Store and the Microsoft Store. However, if you have Windows 10, we recommend that you instead rent the game via Xbox Game Pass for PC, which costs just $1 for the first month. They're practically handing it out for free. If you ask me, Epic got ripped off here.

Infinitron that's a very strange recommendation, about the $1 thing. Does that mean you think Outer Worlds is complete shit? Cause, otherwise, we should be sponsoring relatively decent studios as much as we can.

I haven't played it yet, so I dunno, maybe it IS complete shit, but I am willing to give Cain/Boyarski the benefit of the doubt, until they break my heart. All the other shit from Obsidian came from other teams, so ...

The game fuckin' sucks. I want to like it and damn I tried but it just fails to excel at anything. It's like the devs didn't have the resources or talent to focus on making any aspect of the game really strong so everything's just mediocre and passable at best. There's not one single aspect of the game that another game doesn't do 10x better.

I think I'll wait until I can buy a game I can play at my leisure instead of contributing to Microsoft's shareholder pleasing predictable revenue stream. Plus, $60 is taking the piss.

Obviously, the recommendation is to save everyone here money. If you play the game and see yourself pouring hundreds of hours into it then you can pay $60 full price. If you play it and it sucks, you’re only out $1. Not sure where the issue lies for you.

That’s quite naive.

Can you recommend something that does short hair better?

I remember when the Codex was crowing about Cain-Boyarsky duo as the greatest return of the messiahs of all time...How things change...or rather, how they don't.....but, but, there's still Josh, Anderson and MCA..now IF they join, it will all be good, right? RIGHT?

I bought the Xcocks Fag Pass to check it out. I know I'll probably enjoy it as I really enjoyed F:NV. I also like Gold Box and M&M, FO1, Gothic...don't see why I have to 'haet' on something to garner KKK's just cause a game doesn't reach or even aspire to be some classic for the ages or a callback 'spiritual successor' to something from the past. I expect a F:NV style of FPS RPG game with a kind of open world design and that's what it will be.

I love it how people are piling on on this game, while loving Fallout New Vegas at the same time. While they are basically the same style of game, same "quality" writing and just better gameplay.
Speaking for myself here: The thing that made me appreciate FNV (vanilla, not the shitty, overrated dlc) and bear with all the subhumanity ported from F3 was the fact that it was a genuine F1-2 sequel that continued and developed on a lot of stuff from the prequels and despite sense-raping gembryo got the atmosphere pretty much spot on. Which was not only extremely cool in itself, but also a breath of fresh air for every fan after waiting a decade and suffering the atrocities of Tactics, F3 and BOS (never played the last one, but I assume the rape was not tasteful).

This game has none of that and is made by the same company only in theory, so yeah - people aren't as enthusiastic.

That's the same bullshit argument as used for piracy. Yeah, we will just "try" it, and then if we like it, we will pay. Who is being naive now?

Again, I don't know if Outer Worlds is good or bad yet (will try to play it tonight), but if you want certain types of games developed (other than Bethesda/Bioware crap), put your money where your mouth is.

That is not really true, anymore. Given that shit games makes way more money than good ones, devs will strive for the shit game and not the good one. Which is what happens to a fuckton of indie devs.

We do, we give it to Owlcat. Nobody should give Obsidian even 1$ anymore.

Dummy, they already got their money via an Epic games handout. Stop being obtuse.

You are the one being obtuse, Mustard. You can come up with all sorts of excuses, but at the end of the day, morons who buy Skyrim and Mass Effect vote with their wallets, and lots of monocled nerds look for ways to get stuff on the cheap. And that translates into what gets made.
