The King's Bounty games always had trouble making up their minds about whether they were RPGs or merely strategy games. King's Bounty II, the series revival announced by 1C Entertainment back in 2019, seems to have eventually settled on calling itself an RPG, with AAA-style third person exploration in between tactical battles and a more serious approach towards lore. So I guess we'll give the game a shoutout for its release today. Here's its launch trailer:

King's Bounty II has gotten generally mediocre review scores, with many of the reviewers criticizing it for trying to do too much and for taking itself too seriously compared to the original series. Here's the usual list of links:

A predictable failure at reviving a franchise or another underrated Eastern European gem? I'm sure the Codex consensus won't take long to form. If you'd like to find out for yourself, King's Bounty II is available on Steam for $50.

It's obvious that they will polish and improve the formula in the 3-4 rehashes that they will do in the next 3-4 years.

Wait to buy the Ultimate edition with the base game and all the expansions on a sale for $10 in 4 years. Ignore it until then.

Ganesha is a big elephant dude. Don't mess with Trunks.

Really, KB2? Jesus, and how many add-ons (10, 20, 50, more?) at 10-20$ each? Guy Fawks....

Divinity: Original Sin 2
what a crap game, seriously

this is a game with consoles in mind and then ported it to pc, that not only is bad on the UI and gameplay, also the story and the cherry on top is shitting on the mouth of the previous ones that were light-hearted and fun games

way to destroy a franchise 1C

Its not as bad as I thought it would be, the main story kind of gets you hooked and with different factions and different starting charachters would offer more the one playthrough. Still, this isn't the classic KB or HoMAM3, which means less fight and feels like a smaller map.
Now we need to wait and see what is the new Disciples game going to be all about.
