ATOM RPG: Trudograd, the upcoming standalone sequel-expansion to 2018 Codex favorite ATOM RPG, has been in Early Access for sixteen months. That's a much longer time than originally expected, during which the ATOM Team released no fewer than five major content updates. The final launch is coming soon, though. And by soon I mean next week. Here's the announcement:

Dear friends!

Finally the moment has come when we can announce the release date for ATOM RPG: Trudograd.

This event will happen on September 13th, 2021.

Until then we will use every minute available playtesting the game, fixing bugs, checking out different PC configurations and planning for upcoming content patches.

Spending more than a year in Early Access we have once again found that you, our players, are the greatest source of motivation and inspiration. Your support means the world to us. Your critiques, ideas, advice, the help you offered in bug fixing, planning new features and perfecting mechanics, are what Trudograd would never survive without.

It is thanks to you that Trudograd, initially planned as a small DLC, grew into a game with tens of hours of content, new features, and interesting new ways to play. Original voiced text quests, new skill tree, new locations and characters, perfected balance are just a few of the things you helped us reach.

It is only natural that we wish to thank you for going above and beyond in helping us. That’s why everyone who owned Trudograd in Early Access will get a small free DLC gift called the Veteran’s Pack which will include a new uniform, a Veteran’s medal and a pretty nifty little thermos that will help you in your travels.

Thank you again for your support, trust and patience. And as always, let there be… ATOM!

See you on the release date!
Yes, this means that all three of the Russian isometric RPGs we've followed for the past few years are launching within a span of less than two weeks. Holy shit.

I think it'll work out great for us both! September just works. It's not summer, it's not Christmas, target audience isn't busy with school because they're 40. A marketing strategist wouldn't have been so sure, but that's why we don't have one (and because we are poor)

Man, and I haven't even played Atom RPG yet...
:negative:

I gotta put it on my list, Eastern Euro RPGs often sell for good prices. Gonna buy it when I am employed again.
Don't worry, we're using steam mechanics to make this bundle thing that's gonna be called ATOM RPG: 2-in-1 as if we're a pirate produced Sega cartridge, and it will have both games with possibly some alleged discount for the first one. Especially for those who missed the first game, or waited until turnipgrad to play the first one. gotcha covered!

Will the game be fully complete (in regards to game content) upon release, though? I recall Atom RPG only getting truly finished with the 1.1 Dead City update – should I wait for Trudograd like I waited for Atom?

Tough question! We are planning a free DLC to come out for Trudograd at some point after the release. It will have new game content, though I can't say which, because it will mostly be what the players ask when they play 1.0. Probably a base for you to chill in and stuff, or a new partner, I really can't predict the player demands. Does this fact make 1.0 finished or not? It does and it doesn't.
On one hand, we finished everything we set out to finish for version 1.0, it's a complete story without major plot holes, delivering on most promises and then some, and it not only meets the Trudograd I personally envisioned when I started making my part of it, it's actually around 10 times larger than the Trudograd I envisioned. For me as one of the authors, it's as complete as it should be complete. As was ATOM RPG on its launch day. (As part of the team, I never envisioned Dead City to be something more than a few NPCs and a dungeon). Still, I'm pretty sure that's not how a lot of our players will see it, just like with ATOM RPG on its launch day. So naturally we will make something cool for them, whatever they demand, if it's reasonable enough and this new content will become inseparable from the original vision of Trudograd. So I guess it will be complete in 1.0. and complete-rer with the future free content pack.

How much content does Trudograd have compared to Atom. Atom was a massive game, took me more than 60 hours to complete.
In this regard, as the price tag shows, it will be shorter. 45+++ hours for me, but I read every dialogue word for word. I never grind though. Might get to 50+ with grinding. If you skip texts though, and if you pick the most obvious quest solutions, might even be 30. With improved overall quality, comes slower production speed, and we really wanted to show that we're capable of making improvements in graphics, animations, poly count, ux, soundscape and other departments. Can't imagine a fate worse than becoming a studio that makes atom clones on the same engine year after year. Now we won't be!!! But the result of this is a shorter game.
edit: still, now that I think about it, travel time between locations in Trudograd is sped up x10 compared to atom's 2-3 minute walkabouts. So maybe it isn't even that short? Huh. Sorry for confusing you further.

Oh cool! I guess I really need a break from Highfleet...

Is something going on in Russia that has all these games releasing? I'm getting alot of games in the last few days from slavic devs that really could use another 3 months in EA/bugtesting...

I'm not even in Russia! September sounded like a great month, plus on yesterdays playthrough we only found 3 bugs in the entire game, which were immediately fixed. Mind you, this does not mean Trudograd will come out bug free, it's just that we're at the limit of what a team of 11 + Early Access players could find. Pretty sure that people with computer configs none of us have, or with windows or linuxes or macs or video cards setup in some way different from ours will start playing, they'll fish out plenty of stuff for us to fix, and that's a shame, but then again we will crunch like crazy to fix all of these rare issues as soon as they're reported. And those bugs won't be something we could've caught on our own, even if we took 2 more months of EA.

I am not 40 tho :(

Anyway so i will replay the main game then start with the expac. You can import the character right? Probably gunma take me a month to replay the main game which means the dlc would have probably got fixed of its major problems.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I played ATOM at 1.0 and there were still some bugs I encountered even after they were fixed (because of save file I guess) as well as missing out on general updates and the 1.1 Dead City patch. Seems to be the best thing to do while waiting for similar problems to get ironed out in Trudograd. Got Encased to play too...

Yup, you get to upload a save with all the choices, traits and extra stats you had in the first one. Even distinctions like Possessed which are nowhere to be found in Trudograd, can still be used in more than 10 dialogues in Trudograd if you carry this distinction over from the first game. Same goes for other stuff like tattoos.

It's on Gog for about $11 (end of last month that was about the price for the sale of Atom RPG and the DLC. Codex convinced me it was a good deal. 11$ is tempting without a sale.

Is this game more accessible than ATOM in terms of the references and shit like that?

ATOM had alot of implicit obscure cultural stuff, that a non-russian player is not really into or gets. E.g. western audiences.

I hope you improved the story, combat and stuff ,since that was the worst parts of ATOM for me, other than trying to be a 1:1 carbon copy of fallout 1

Any female companions this time? It was a sad flaw in the first game.
You get one, but there's a quest where you need to escort another one from point A to point B so you can roleplay that there's two. The second one will leave though. But you'll get to give her away in marriage so it's all good.

Now I don't speak for all two writers, but my part of the text lost most cultural subtext. I don't remember ever using anything from my culture or any other culture I am familiar with as a need to know ingredient in a joke, reference or some such, apart from maybe like 5 examples in the entire 45+ hour game. My side of Trudograd at least (or all of it at most) was made with much more mass appeal in mind. This is most assuredly will be perceived by most as at least a marginal improvement

is it more difficult than atom?
If you transfer a character from ATOM who had extra stats, that funky tattoo for +1, etc, you'll be much stronger than when beginning ATOM RPG. If you are an experienced player, you will only get occasional challenges, and very little in the game will frustrate you or make you savescum.
If you don't transfer, it will be somewhat more challenging, but still no encounter will force you to kite enemies, savescum, etc like in the first hours of ATOM RPG for some.
It's still pretty challenging for players new to the genre or players who make crappy builds for no apparent reason. Overall though, easier than ATOM.
But pls keep in mind: this is my opinion as a player, I can't say that it's an objective truth. That's the feeling I got after my 100 playthroughs.
