Dungeon Master-type games are basically a real-time spinoff from Wizardry-type games

OK the what sets Skyrim apart from blobbers, other than there is just one character being controlled in Skyrim?

What if you're only controlling one character in Dungeon Master? Does it stop being a blobber?

Yes, Anvil of Dawn is not a blobber, that's the convention

I have very little familiarity with this type of games, yet the term "blobber" makes sense to me and I see what it is refering to. So in my opinion it is a good term.
Of course it has its limits for edge cases, like almost any classification.

it's a forced, unfunny meme and nobody outside of this site will have any idea what you're referring to when you use it and then when you say "well, it's a first person dungeon crawler..." they'll go "oh, why didn't you just say so?"

Codexers usually don't talk to people outside of the codex

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Gold Box games are also dungeon crawlers.
Diablo is a dungeon crawler.
Ultima Underworld and Arx Fatalis are dungeon crawlers.
Knights of the Chalice is a dungeon crawler.

The important difference is how you crawl the dungeons in those games.

In blobbers, you crawl them as a blob.

Same argument applies with blobbers when you point out just saying "you move as a blob" equally applies to games like Lords of Xulima and nearly the entire jrpg genre.
If you have to preface it with "first person blobber", then you can do the same thing with dungeon crawlers. And people outside of this site will actually know what you're referring to.

the most hilarious part of "blobber" is that it excludes basically half the genre so now you need to come up with a new name for games that only have one character

- What's a "car"?
- Well, it's an automotive four-wheeled vehicle...
- Oh, why didn't you just say so?

Make the Codex Great Again!
Just like how if you remove the ability to control multiple units from an RTS, it stops being an RTS.

Dune 2 is an RTS. Can only control one unit at a time tho.

At a time, yes.

But you control multiple units during each mission.

Don't be obtuse.

Dungeon Master with one character is literally the same game as with two, three and four characters.

Which makes Skyrim a blobber, with one character.

It's a stupid term which encompasses things that aren't related, makes no sense and is severely autistic — but in a bad way autistic. Not a fun Codex autistic way.

More like walking in on an inbred family that has its own words for things that contain liquid. They call all things that contain liquid a "wetter".

When a guest points out that it's a stupid definition and encompasses unrelated things in a meaningless way, they laugh and call him obtuse.

That's by design, party-based games are inherently superior

Perhaps, but Dungeon Master is literally the same game, whether you play it with one character or a group.

This definition sucks rocks. Everyone has their own little exceptions and explanations as to why it doesn't fit the Gold Box games, but does fit some jrpgs. It's a mess.

Every grouping for everything ever is arbitrary and has edge cases that don't neatly fit you dumb tranny.

No.

More like how you call a glass of water "filled" but a cloth of water "soaked". It's about how the liquid interacts with the thing it's inside.

Blobber does exactly that: it tells you how many characters a game has (more than 1) and how you move through its world (multiple characters moving as one).
It's a valid definition that's easy to understand.
