Take a look at this brief BioShock community Q&A:

Are there any lessons from Deus Ex 2 that the team has learned and is using when making BioShock?
Many development teams have learned important lessons from previous attempts to bring PC games to the console, though Deus Ex 2 is an infamous example. One of the main things we are doing differently is that we are leading our development efforts with the 360. Therefore all decisions on HUD and gameplay situations are made on the 360 and brought over to the PC to avoid the situations you are thinking about.
Thank God. I was worried that they might develop the game for the PC, 'cause that would, like, totally suck.

Woah, I am relieved myself. There I was, thinking I would have to fear that the game is gonna have a crappy PC interface... I just hope they'll not make it too hard. That piece of crap, System Shock 2, sucked, like, totally. It was too hard, too scary, and it didn't work with my consoles. And the story was so complicated. And the worst: When you spent your cyber-modules (module, lol, what's that supposed to mean??) on something you couldn't trade it back! That sucked like big time; that forced me to make choices.

Utter crap.

Bioshock is on the right track. I just hope they don't make it too hard. And I think it needs more bloom. A lot more bloom. And Patrick Stewart.

That was a bug. That's what happens when games are not playtested properly.

No. Just.. no.

Another game to cross off the list of interesting '07 titles.

Because every true Codexite should love System Shock 2 and feel true emo-pain to see its legacy raped like this.

Your brain tumor
Consoles are ruining PC games.

Fixed that for you.

While I can by no means say that a bothersome console interface will make the whole game a mess, it doesn't bode well for how they approach other design philosophies of the game with the 360 being the primary focus. Besides, Deus Ex 2 suffered more from microscopic levels, inane universal ammo, lack of skills, and other poor decisions that made it a lame sequel which felt little like the original. A bad interface had little to do with anything.

It's like Ken Levine just pissed in my breakfast cereal. This doesn't automatically mean it's going to suck, but it decreases the chances of pure awesomeness significantly.

Well, Ken was slowly winning me over to their side lately but this certainly swung my interest back to neutral.

Ken's not deciding whether Bioshock's going to be PC exclusive or not. That's an economical decision made by the mother company, Take 2, so don't be so bitchy about him. You're (as usual) bullshitting the wrong people.

I though there was something fishy about developers praising "Games for Windows" brand. It all makes sense now.

("Games for windows" is a scheme to promote XBox.)

It's not about Bioshock being a PC/console title as that's been known for a long time.

Levine is the public "face" of Bioshock (and Irrational) so it's natural that any bitching about the game will go his direction, regardless of who made each individual decision. Kind of like Warren Spector and Deus Ex 2.

Christ, I take a little brake from the game because the Saints just lost a fumble, and I come here and read this shit. My interest level in this game just dropped quite a bit.

What the hell are you even talking about? We all knew Bioshock was on Xbox and PC from the beginning. Ken's the lead on the game and I liked what he had to say about the game. Until this shitty Q&A which states probably the biggest paradoxal observation. Deus Ex 2 sucked because it was designed with consoles in mind. So there solution is to design on the console primarily so as to not suck like DX2?

Nobody even bashed Ken in this thread so I don't what you're whining about.
