NMA has posted 10(!) pages of the Fallout 3 article. Enjoy!

Here is an overview:

Your father - the only family you have - disappeared from the vault #101 without warning or explanation.

Fallout 3 is the best of both franchises [Fallout and TES], without any compromises (even though the franchises are the exact opposite - VD), and with enough amazing new details!

Weapons will degrade with use and could be damaged directly by attacks.

This you've gotta read: "Two impossibly large ants crawl toward you. Thinking quickly, you target one of the broken down cars near where the mutated insects are passing. A few shots find its engine, one of those old nuclear generators, and the ants and the car alike disappear into a small mushroom cloud." WTF?!

Every other level you can choose a perk.

You can play the game in either first person or third person view (Resident Evil is used as an example).

You'll need food and water to survive. Water is an excellent source of H2O and radiation. You'll often have to drink from toilet bowls. Seriously.

About the VATS. It's not turn-based. In the VATS mode the speed of your actions is measured in APs (as of opposite to seconds). The APs regenerate in real time.

For some odd reasons, the supermutants are everywhere, hiding behind every corner.

Complex, game-changing moral choices and awesome quests are promised, but no examples are given.

The good news is the handheld nuclear catapult, a classic Fallout weapon beloved by every Fallout fan, is definitely in. THANK YOU BETHESDA!!!

It's big, it is.

Bad points:
- The graphix
- The combat system. VATS is like RTwP with limited pausing abilities. How incredibly retarded is that?
- The hype talk. Man, there's a lot of it.
- Incredibly stupid-sounding main plot.

Good points:
- Getting some of Oblivion's more obvious flaws: less and better-worked NPCs, no level scaling, and...
- choice and consequence! Hope they get it right
- multiple endings?
- good locations, from the sound of it
- setting looks ok, 'cept for the stupid weapons and what the hell is the Brotherhood doing there?

Neutral:
- Kids are in. Unclear if you can kill them.
- Dogmeat is back as a follower.

What's the story? I don't want to wade through a hypespeak if someone else has done it already.

Your father escaped of fled or diasapaered from the Vault or whatever and you have to go out and find him.

Fallouts original visual style seems completly lost. Note how they have replaced theVault Dwellers 50s comic style skin-tight Jumpsuit with more modern looking clothes.

Choices and Consequences, multiple ending and paths to solve quests sound interesting, however...its Bethesda, so Im not gonna believe until I have seen it myself.

My first impression is that it sucks. Only the choices and consequence things and the part which says that your char can't become "head of all guilds" at the same time is preventing me from saying that this actualy looks exactly as expected, Oblivion with Guns.

"The spirit of Fallout- we've missed it and want to see it in games again" Todd Howard.

Yeah and relentlessly dumbing the fuck out of the genre seems an odd way to try and bring it back Todd

I want to believe this will be good....but I know it won't. Ah well....since it's on the 360 I can get it very easily. Should be worth a few laughs at least from the Retarded AI.

Also I noticed there was nothing about modding or a construction set. Expect brahmin armor.

fuck it may just be good. it certainly LOOKS good. the part they mention with releasing the ticket-collector bot on the mutants, and the mutants commenting on it - if its not a one-time deal like fargoth's stash was, then IMMA PLAY DIS MOVIE

Your father has disappeared and you have to find him? That lacks a certain :water chip:-ness.

That nuclear reactor in the car is totally setting breaking. If nuclear reactors are just sitting around in cars, why the hell hasn't civilization been brought back yet? That's tons of free energy just sitting around.

This is my main gripe with the visuals as well. The super mutants for example look too 'realistic', if that is an adequate word for it.

Hey, this isn't looking so bad. But let not forget that most of this is the work of a huge hype machine, so...

Jesus fuckin Christ... this whole VATS system is abomination- it's a monster, a hybrid of fpp and tb that should've never been made

I'm not fan of Betehsda to be sure, and there are some beefs I have with what the article states; but it actually is described as a playable and potentially fun game hype aside. The combat is really an iffy though..

Am I imagining things, or did that article say that eating snack food, drinking sodas, or drinking water repeatedly from a broken toilet restores health? This is like some bullshit from a FPS game.

Someone tell me I hallucinated that, please...?

Yes, finally Beth found a way to please neither the TB- nor the RT-fraction. VATS sounds like pure idiocy.

The game is far away from looking like...well, Fallout. It reminds me of NextGen-shooters like Gears of war, no EC Comic reference anymore.

Just look at it, without the name Fallout on it nobody would give a damn about this game and its crazy ideas, I am speechless about the Fatman and this Supermutant right in front of you. No, this is not Fallout. No, it doesn't look any special or even interesting. And hit into the groin for presenting us a console version as first looks. Fuck you Bethesda, fuck you very very much.

I forgot about all these shiney RPG-features, it's Bethesda, it's console, so I don't give a damn.

Combat sucks, everything else seems quite good. The water & radiation thingy is a good idea IMO. The visuals are so-so: not offensive but nothing to write home about, either.

Bullshit.

Considering all the non FO spam seen on the Codex (and, elsewhere); this game would be heard of FO nor no fO. Dumbass.

And, it's gonna sell a million copies and it won't be because of the FO name; but Bethesda name.

I just have one thing to add right now. Did anyone else notice that the description of agility claims it affect the V.A.T.S. combat mode but does not mention the other one?

The growing up in the Vault thing is pretty cool. I think the original Fallouts didn't make the most of the concept of the Vaults... how are they organized, what do people do, what kind of social atmosphere do you have there? etc. If Beth can get it right (possible) that would be one positive innovation.

The chargen stuff like ethnicity is cute but is it just aesthetic or will it have any effect in the game? I'd like to play a negro character who'll discover discrimination once outside the Vault (where progressive socialism have wiped it out), and have to fight racist rednecks.

well, it may suck badly (or slightly less), but on the other hand it looks like there will be lots of stuff to base "truer" mods on.

Well, that's actually what I tried to say. But I'm tired, so let's leave it at that. Dumbass.
