There's a short preview of Dragon Age up at IGN who got to see it again at the Leipzig Game Convention. This time though, BioWare focussed more on showing off different characters:

The Human Noble character was often at the front of the conflict, leading his team of three other warriors into the fray. This was very different when playing the same locations as a female Elvin Mage. These characters focus on ranged magical techniques that both cause damage and enhance the attacks of their teammates. This often requires the combination of magic spells such as greasing an area and then lighting it afire. Or, you could put out the fire with a blizzard spell and drain an enemy's health and mana with a light show called Tempest. We saw other spells that paralyzed, lit weapons on fire, and shot streams of flames in a single directions. The mages may hang back, but it seems that they are rarely bored.

Another way the character class played into the game was the interactions that took place in town. While the human noble was treated with respect by most everyone, Elves are second class citizens in the world of Dragon Age. The mage character was taunted and talked to with a tone of resentment on more than one occasion. Only another mage recognized the character's sizeable talents and paid her respect.

Mage gonna kick the towns people's ass.

Looks like Dragon Age is going to be an interesting Diablo clone where you can play with a team.

The off topic post is one of the finest traditions of the internet. It is as inevitable as the tides.

BTW in before Volourn.

Well, I guess that's good news that NPCs react differently. At least, everyone won't be like 'OH, WELCOME VALIANT, MIGHTY, BRAVE DEFENDER OF THE HOLY FOREST OF THE TRUE METAL' when you play a thief or assassin or just an evil person or something.

Elves and other demihumans as persecuted minorities is getting old. If that is what they mean by "dark and gritty" I'm disappointed

In your nightmare.
Well.. they can do that - since they have a staggering number of races and classes; 6 combined. Gritty indeed. And super-emotionally engaging (yes, Zeschuk used this wording to describe DA in an interview, after using the word "emotional" at least a dozen times already).

Can't wait to cry playing Dragon Age. This will be soo epic..

Sounds kickass.

Indeed, the game is shaping up pretty nicely...
The only thing I am not too fond of right now is purely aesthetics-related - the 3d portraits leave a bit to be desired, I'm going to miss the beautiful 2D ones.

Nah, it sounds and looks pretty goddamn good so far. Though I'm a bit afraid that the maps will have that boxed in kotor feel to them.

I hope they'll really shine with it though, because I'm afraid that with EA buying Bioware all we will see in the future are uninspired sequels and a slow lingering creative death from one of the last rpg developers.

Tool. KOTOR was way more 'boxed in' than NWN. No doubt about it.

Only a moron would think otherwise.
