If you haven't yet tired of us trying to milk your every last shekel, you can pick up <b><a href="http://af.gog.com/en/frontpage?as=1649904300" target="blank">Gothic II Gold at Good Old Games</a></b> for $9.99 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Codex.

<blockquote>Gothic 2 Gold is a third-person role-playing game by Piranha Bytes. The game's storyline picks up where the first part left off, three months after the protagonist the Nameless Hero, is rescued by Xardas. He soon learns he has much yet to do, as Khorins faces another threat. Its only means of salvation lies in an ancient artifact - the Eye of Innos - which lies in the hands of Lord Hagen, leader of the paladins. If he fails to retrieve it, war and ruin will befall the land. If you want to get hyped some more, check out the intro movies on our YouTube channel.</blockquote>

In your head, obviously
Just... why did you say shekel, out of all currencies? Because the idea of a shielded little country overrun with man-eating monsters reminds you of a certain other small country overrun with rocket-throwing monsters?

Hm, do I buy Gothic 2 or feed my family this month?

Both. Buy Gothic 2 and feed your family... lies.

Tell them things will get better. And also that purchasing the game enters you in a contest to win 500,000 shekels to feed them with.

I know but I was young and ignorant. I actually looked for the Gothic Universe bundle but heard bad things about it. Definitely getting both from GoG later.

Heard bad things about the d2d version of GU, too. Something about the download version still having a CD check...
Just a word of warning. Many people have difficulty with Gothic's controls. You need a certain amount of timing in combat and l33t FPS skillz and ADD don't help...

Anyway, if I were you, I'd try a demo first:

No. Don't try the demo. Just jump into it and suck up those first instances of sweet, humiliating death to things you're not used to dying to, just like everyone else. Then get a small glimpse of the story - and later on, get completely sucked into one of the best realized open worlds so far. Seriously, I envy you for being able to experience Gothic2 for the first time, especially considering you get Night of the Raven along with the package.

I'll wait a bit, I'm not really able to get into a new game right now. I'll pick both Gothic when I have more free time or if there is a promotion.

But it's been on my list since I joined the Codex. at least I discovered Bloodlines for the first time last month (and was blown away).

Since I already own all Gothics, I'd rather save theCodex with the power of Arx Fatalis. I assume using the link at the top of the page will be helpful.

Yes sir, but a word of warning: hearing your PC in Arx saying "I'm hungry" every 5 minutes is more painful than "You must gather your party before venturing forth" and "Get out of here stalker" combined.

Arx is one of those games I feel I just have to try sometime, and I see it's now dirt cheap. I've been considering to buy it for ages, which is kinda funny since I've easily thrown more money out of the window otherwise at the same time.

But I've been thinking, maybe the Codex should have a recommendation thread specifically for GOG games.

I'd buy Gothic 2 a second time for the sake of the Codex, but I swore to never, ever replay it because those giant bugs (creatures, not glitches) seriously creep me out.

Found a promo code on a website so I finally bought Gothic and Gothic 2, and Jagged Alliance 2 for good measure.

Just upping this to say that they got a contest for Gothic explorers: find the location in this picture and you might get a promo code. I mention it because I find it original for a promotion contest. The details are on the GoG frontpage and you got until the 9th of March to give an answer.

Bah, that's ridiculously easy. I recognized it at first glance, and I haven't played Gothic in maybe two years.

Well I haven't played it yet so I have no idea if it's easy or not.
I'm not blaming you for your ignorance, I blame whoever at GOG chose this location. I would've preferred a location with easily identifyable features that is still obscure enough so player actually have to load the game and look for it.
This location is so simple, if you don't recognize it you haven't played Gothic.

I am reminded of those phone quizzes that allow you to choose between the correct answer and a blantantly stupid answer, so you don't even have to know the answer to the very easy question. Just choose the answer that isn't ridiculous.

This is a tiny bit "better" as you at least have to play the game once to know the answer.

Eh, hasn't been an issue for me; so far my character doesn't seem to get hungry very often. Maybe you've just been feeding your char shit?
