David from Metal Beetle stopped by to let us know about the latest preview build for Space Exploration: Serpens Sector.

In this new preview, your ship's crew play a much larger role. Crew members now have individual skills and morale levels, and many encounters have been rewritten to let you choose crew members for specific tasks. And instead of the time limit in dev 8, you can now return to Fleet Headquarters to ask for more fuel - the better you do in your mission, the more fuel you are awarded.

Too bad he misspelled Andhaira.

I gave it a go. It's good I think but it's pretty hard. I can't really get started because I keep failing at everything and running out of fuel. Never played Starflight.

Edit: And it isn't really like SCII.

Just finished one map with 100% exploration.

VERY random, and indeed seems there are quite limited number of encounters. I've missed some, I'm sure, but based on a few games I've played many repeat itself.

It does have potential, though. I think I will buy it provided it'll live up to expectations.

EDIT:
Oh, it's even free but with 'episodic content' that would cost some.
Well, sounds prudent: the game itself with serve as a 'demo', and based on how much sales first expansions will generate - he'll provide more.
Sounds good enough.

No Star Control, of course, but worth a few bucks to be sure.

Game is full of win. Don't compare to Starflight/SC2. If you must compare to Strange Adventures in Infinite Space, and it's sequel Weird Worlds. I think Serpens Sector is already better than those two.

Make the Codex Great Again!
^I second that. It's no SC2, but it's definitely very fun. For some reason even if I'm on a streak of bad luck (horrible crew members, no space gold), I find myself constantly intrigued to see how I'll end up...that is, until I run out of new encounters

I'd say this isn't a game that one plays for the sake of winning, or even getting the highest score, because the anticipation in itself is quite entertaining
