Graphical roguelike Kamyran's Eye 2 has gone freeware, with an updated version released just the other day.

Kamyran's Eye 2 is a graphical fantasy-themed roguelike role-playing game for PC (Windows, Linux).
It features a dynamic world that is never quite the same, armies that fight each other and burn down cities in a branching storyline with multiple endings.
Forge alliances, defend cities, explore dungeons and get to know the diverse inhabitants of Amris - before chaos engulfs them.

So get to downloading and once again, blame getter77 if it sucks.

Yep, tis a hard game too, though to be fair I've only played on Normal difficulty whilst getting slaughtered.

As part of the thing I'm trying to do, I helped out on making a decent portion of the text into better flowing English...on top of seeing if any reproducible bugs could be wrangled----which I couldn't. It takes it a little bit to generate the entire world at the very beginning, kinda like in Dwarf Fortress but nowhere near as long by my reckoning.

Freaked me out the first time an enemy had a "surprise" in store for me instead of killing me at a near death moment. Still wound up getting torn to shreds, but not before taking the chance to head to an unexplored freaky place...

Magic system makes mages pretty powerful, but definitely very different to play than in just about any other Roguelike.

The first game in the series is also freeware, but I've not had time to tinker with it.

Is there any way to tell which weapon does more damage besides the text descriptions?

Nope, though that is something under consideration from my conversatons. The descriptions try to make it obvious'ish, and I guess that you can swap weapons without eating a turn as well as hold quite a lot on your person allows for experimentation with some of the nebulous ones.

I just chalk it up as a quirk of the game same as no detailed info on spell damage and the like, to just try your luck and wits and see what happens.

I'm impressed that you guys can like a game that plays and looks like this. When I was a kid I could get over the crappy system and gfx, but these days I just can't. This game could have been made 20 years ago. And it seems, that this is to some a good thing and some a bad thing...

Cons: Hardly any input in char development. Overall very simplistic. Damn cute graffixs.

Pros: Clean interface. Mouse functionality.

I'm back to waiting for the new version of Incursion.

-Thing on the far left is somebody that's Enslaved

-I hope to be able to play ADOM one day... :(

-I believe the original platform was for mobile devices then it was ported to PC so....

-Not much to do in generation, more about how/what you wind up doing moreso than building outright...though it is interesting that you can ser the priotities in level up development or have them be random and see how you fare based on your starting class choice. Oct 31st is getting ever closer for Incursion!

Try a different build - I'm playing a mage with talent priorities as magic, stealth then endurance, and I'm finding it very easy (on medium difficulty).

how do you set the priorities, and learn new spells?
"t" for talent. Go to attributes and you can click on the boxes on the right. The text tells you which priority is which. You don't "learn" new spell. You find scrolls and put them into the spells slots (they get highlighted if you select a spell). You can find or buy new scrolls. They don't get used up as in D&D. The green points in the spell slots are your mana. They can be filled up by using gems. All highlighted again.

I'd also say to avoid caves and such at first to try and explore the overworld and move things along quest wise, improve EQ, find more magic, gems, potion reagents, etc.

Bows have infinite ammo, which is nice.

Yep, nasty isn't it? I was fighting a Cultist on the overworld that had smashed me down to 1HP before they sprung that on me. Some stuff will still come after you though....and I THINK it eventually wears off somehow depending or that some stuff you'll somehow be able to.

I think if you can find a Witch of some sort or certain Resist oriented potions can free you from it.
