<ul>2D graphics, given the present screen resolutions possible, have become prohibitive in terms of required memory if you want to have credible scenes and numerous, well articulated animations with a proper number of frames. Not talking about the overall scene details and so on. Properly done, a 3D system will be much more efficient and will look very good indeed.
