Quite a lot of Strategy First and Jagged Alliance-related news today, huh? Hope you aren't tired of it. Anyway, here's another snippet from the Bear's Pit forum, this time a conversation from this thread between Strategy First's Richard Therrien and... Chris Camfield, an ex-Sir-Tech guy.

RT: Hi there Chris, glad to see things are shaping up for you.

CC: Thanks, guys! Richard, I'd be extremely interested to know if any of my JA3 design work is going to be used... but I understand if you can't talk about it. ;)

RT: Can't say that we will use the design as is. I am definite that as much of it as possible will be preserved. There is still some way to go before JA3 proper (the actual development) gets started so that leaves plenty of time to insure that everything that can be there is.
I am also carefully examining the minutes of the design work that was done on DA. That might prove useful as well.

CC: DA = another project that was being worked on in the office I was at.
I'll leave it to Richard if he wants to say more than that.
Thanks very much, Richard, for that information.

Well, it looks like probably no Sir-Tech people are involved in the new JA projects, but the good news is that at least some of the old designs by the good ol' team (including the mysterious DA) will be retained. It also looks like there aren't any hard feelings between ex-Sir Tech people and SFI - that's also good to hear.

Damnit Ausir, you really gotta stop this. Because every time you post one of these news 'snibblets', I'm obliged to go and put a newspost about this up at Jagged Alliance Galaxy too...
I can't 'stay behind', you know.

Damnit boy, you're costing a lot of my time!

Hehe

(Anyway, to clarify: I saw this stuff on BP too, of course - but I chose to wait a bit untill more information about it is released. I don't wanna go down like with the 'JA3D is going to be a remake of JA2UB again...)

*Ahem* Continue along now, people

Well, it's still news, even if it turns out to be inaccurate later :).

I'm not sure it is a good thing. Cludging together other people's stuff tends to be awkward and rarely meshes together well in the final product. Better to start with a clean slate.

That's usually the case, Voss, unless SFI is only planning to use the Mercenary descriptions and backgrounds which, as I understand it are already written for JA3.

I imagine that Shaun Lyng may have already wrote the script and dialogue for the characters. I do hope that they will be able to get many of the original voice actors back.

I know, But was he working on JA3 when it was still a Sir-Tech project?

Meh. I'm more looking forward to the 3 turn-based X-Com clones in the making.

I'm quite looking forward to it, though. I helped Shaun create one of the mercs, and the speech tree seemed to suggest the characters and merc interaction system will be quite similar to JA...

I didn't know it was paused real time only though... I thought there was also a completely functional turn based system?

And about him working on Sirtech's JA3... I must honestly say I don't know. I don't know if anyone knows, really. And I surely don't know if they reached the stage in the development where they started writing/recording dialogue... I'll mail Shaun about it, and if he replies, I'll be sure to tell you all.

Hell, combined with Camfields newsbit, that might actually be enough info to warrant a newpost on JAG... (/me gives Ausir a naughty look*)

*No, not that kind of naughty.

Yeah, but that was just such a great episode. Made no sense, even if you knew about the movie it was parodying (which I didn't the first time I saw it), and yet was incredibly funny.
