IGN have posted the first details on the Obsidian-produced Neverwinter Nights 2. Producer Darren Monahan and Obsidian bigwig Feargus Urquhart talk about what they want to do with the sequel with the odd interjection from BioWare's Greg Zeschuk.

So what is Obsidian Entertainment's role in the game building process? Well basically, they're the workhorses on the project. Obsidian will be overlooking all design, art and engine improvements, as well as being responsible for the story, the content and pretty much everything else in the game. The team is currently comprised of ten people, including Producer Darren Monahan -- who was a producer on the Icewind Dale and Dark Alliance series -- as well as Art Director Marc Holmes -- who was the Art Director on the original Neverwinter Nights. It's still early in the development process at this time, but as Neverwinter Nights 2 gets into full swing, the team will grow considerably.

Well, the first game had about 70 people on it at its peak and it sucked, so maybe less developers mean a better game? Also, is anyone else chilled to the bone when they hear Feargus saying how the NWN OC was a "strong story-based single player game"? Note to Fearg: if you do your own franchises, you don't have to suck up to anyone.

EDIT: Couple other bits of NWN2 coverage which I'm not gonna bother posting separately because at this point, they're all saying the same things. An interview with the BioWare CEOs at Neverwinter Vault and a chat with Feargus about NWN2 at GameSpy.

Well as Frank has said, we are implementing Hyper Crate Technology 2.0. Crates will play a huge role in the game making a story unnecessary.

I'm hoping that NWN2 fixes some of the hideous aspects of NWN. Camera angle, graphics, radial menu - they all need looking at. However reading the post above from Feargus gives me hope - a crate lead recovery.

I don't care about the OC, I'm primarily interested in NWN2 as a PW game. Allowing for Guilds to own and fight over property, territory etc would add a new dimension to the game.

Already possible.
