<p>Basilisk Games <a href="http://basiliskgames.com/eschalon-book-ii-1-05-is-released" target="_blank">released another update</a> for <strong>Eschalon: Book II</strong>, this time the update contains the free expansion "<a href="http://basiliskgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&amp;t=4374" target="_blank">The Secret of Fathamurk</a>".</p>
<blockquote>
<p><strong>[Q]</strong> What is "The Secret of Fathamurk?"<br /><strong>[A]</strong> It is a new, high-level adventure for Eschalon: Book II which gives the game an additional 3-5 hours of gameplay.<br /><br /><strong>[Q]</strong> Is it a seperate game?<br /><strong>[A]</strong> No, it's an extension of Eschalon: Book II. If you already have Eschalon: Book II, you'll be able to play The Secret of Fathamurk.<br /><br /><strong>[Q]</strong> Ah, so it's another scheme by you wealthy, money-grubbing developers to get us to buy downloadable content, right?<br /><strong>[A]</strong> No, it is a <span style="text-decoration: underline;">free</span> extention to the game. You just need to own the original game Eschalon: Book II.<br /><br /><strong>[Q]</strong> So I don't have to pay for it?<br /><strong>[A]</strong> Nope. We love you and this is our gift to you for being a customer. But if you really want to help us, please mention our games on your Twitter feed, or on your Facebook page, or your blog. Or if you've been playing Book II and you didn't actually buy it, please consider purchasing a copy now. Your support allows us to make make more games for you!</p>

I dunno if making it free will stop the bitching. Certainly didn't work for The Witcher: EE

Its a real shame that Book 2 wasn't properly rebalanced.

Book 1 was a good effort, but magic skills were way too powerful as they replicated a whole bunch of other skills (lockpicking, weapon skills etc). The drunken lizard forums (I think thats what they were called) had a whole bunch of retards that came on and bitched and moaned about how weak mages were simply because they couldn't build their characters right.

You also had a bunch of cretins whining about class stereotypes not being respected in a fucking skills-based system.

Rather than rebalance all this through a redesign of the skills, Book 2 made mages stronger :retarded:

I still bought book 2, but it could have been so much better than it was, which was disappointing.

Fixed: Widget no longer shows in Hellice Lake cabin. Also redesigned the cabin to be less wang-like.

The crap people can bitch about...

I played Eschalon Book 2 for about 20 hours and enjoyed it. Not sure I will ever go back to it and play it to completion, but for what it is it was a good time.

I enjoyed the first Eschalon, it was pretty good for what it was, ie. a retro game made by one person. It manipulatively hit the right nostalgic notes, like fighting dinosaurs in medieval forest.

I felt the first one was a waste of money for what it tediously offered. Good effort, though, with nice graphics and music, and I did manage to play it until the end. I think I'll wait for another few revisions before I return to this world.

Fathamurk/muthafark is one of the more unaesthetic names I have ever seen. I will support any retributive action you decide to take Serious_Business

Merida, again
The name is pretty gay. Anyway, never got around to seriously play Book II. I liked the first one, though 2 replays is more than enough for me. Book II just seemed different somehow. I guess I just got bored.
