Guido Henkel has some Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore in-game video footage to show us in the latest Kickstarter update.

He also introduces a 3500 backers stretch-goal: the Classless Character.

How does this work in practice? When you pick a class in the game, it automatically ties your character to certain abilities and limitations. Since each class has certain modifiers that determine the character’s traits and abilities, this can be cumbersome at times, and get in the way of the character you REALLY want to play.

The Classless Character gets around these limitations. It is a middle-of-the-road kind of character with no real strengths, but also no real weaknesses. His class modifiers will all be zero, and only the race modifiers are applied to the character. He is a carte blanche, giving the player the opportunity to really shape him any which way he wants to.

However, when creating such a character, one has to keep in mind that despite its overall flexibility, the classless character has limitations. While he may be a magic user, he will not have access to all spells, however. Dedicated Wizardry spells will be available to Wizards only, while certain fighting techniques will be available only to Warriors, and so forth. Therefore, the classless character plays more of a supporting role in the game to complement other companions in the party, but to that end, he might be one mighty fellow you would not want to miss.

There's some more stuff in the update but if you cared you'd already be reading the update on Kickstarter.

15 days to go, looks like funding is fucked. Was it mentioned anywhere if the man is going to finish the game no matter of the kickstarter sucess?

Looks... exactly like a Grimrock-era blobber would look. Fine.

Blobbers generally aren't my thing but I hope he can continue to work on the game, funding or not.

It made a jump at least, yesterday it was 82K and now it's 92K.

Probably because it was linked in the latest Torment update.
It will be sad to see this fail, but I don't really see how they could get the remaining 300K in the time that is left. I wonder if they have a backup plan - was it maybe mentioned in the Matt Chat (I have not watched it yet)?

I often tend to think "oh they managed almost 100K, so a good third of the final 300K" - but then I must remind myself that the final amount is 400K.
Besides... funny how it's similar to the Shaker RPG, which also reached 1/4 of their funding goal.

Didn't this guy have a failed Kickstarter before?

In a German interview he was saying that they will probably continue with the game even if the Kickstarter fails, as there may be other financing options.

In fact, in his most recent interview with the german magazine PC Games Hardware, he said exactly the opposite. He wrote: "Without the money from kickstarter, we won't be able to continue the development. The financing was the reason why we started the KS campaign in the first place".

I think that the interview from last week at http://www.spieleveteranen.de is more up-to-date than the printed interview.

Here he says at around 21:00 that he does not have a concrete Plan B, but he still wants to continue developing the game and will try to find other financing options. This would probably mean that the game would become smaller due to having less money for it.

But yes, probably it's older because it was part of the printed version as well.

Guido should consider Pre-Order/Early Access for Deathfire, it worked pretty well with Prison Architect and Natural Selection 2.

Not getting funded, let's all move on. I told you guys, nobody knows who this "Guido" is, and nobody but a handful of really dedicated people care about someone who designated German Realms of Arkania games.

Since it's not getting funded, we can make finding a publisher easier for him by upping our pledges to ridiculous amounts.

lol, I thought about that too, but what if it suddenly get funded then - on the last day, where you didn't pay attention to the KS page? You have 1000$ less :p

Who wants to play a incomplete/beta CRPG anyway? I have no interest in even touching the MMX early access, I'm waiting for the real thing.

It's a little sad looking at the kickstarter comments, with a small group of people fighting for and celebrating literally every new backer and wasting their time trying to promote it themselves. There's, unfortunately, no way this is going to be successfully funded outside of every internet celebrity plugging the game. I'm interested in it, but it just doesn't stand out enough for it to be successful this way.
