In a press release posted on their forums, Basilisk Games (AKA "that other indie RPG developer that isn't Spiderweb Software") have announced a release date for Eschalon: Book III, which was successfully greenlit for Steam release back in October.

Basilisk Games Announces the release date for "Eschalon: Book III"

Indianapolis, IN - December 3, 2013 - Basilisk Games, Inc. is proud to announce that Eschalon: Book III is expected to launch on Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2014.

On February 14 the game will be immediately available, worldwide and DRM-free, through our website at http://basiliskgames.com. Eschalon: Book III was recently approved through Steam's Greenlight service and will be available on most major distribution portals on or shortly after its worldwide Valentine's Day release.

“The last game of the Eschalon trilogy is in the final stages of development now and is expected to wrap up in time for next Valentine's Day” said Thomas Riegsecker, CEO of Basilisk Games. “It is really an exciting time for us to see this project finished, and for everyone waiting to see how the trilogy comes to a close.”

Basilisk Games is expected to begin semi-public Beta Testing of Eschalon: Book III in early January 2014 for fans who want to help balance the game before its release. More information on the beta test program will be posted on the website at http://basiliskgames.com in the coming weeks.

About Eschalon: Book III

Eschalon: Book III is the final game in the award-winning Eschalon RPG series, following Book I's release in 2007 and Book II's release in 2010. The Eschalon RPG series features sprawling, open-ended game worlds and almost unlimited character development options. Book III brings the series to a climatic end as you seek to uncover the mystery of four powerful gemstones and your clouded past. No experience with either of the first two games is needed to enjoy this final chapter in the Eschalon saga. More information on the game can be found online at: http://basiliskgames.com/eschalon-book-iii
Insert joke about RPG players and Valentine's Day here.

I couldn't really get into the first two Eschalon games. The dev's a Codexer at heart though, including the attitude:

• Book III is not a dumbed-down “RPG for the masses”. Rapid button clicking won’t save you here. Eschalon pays honor to the greatest RPGs of the past, with unlimited character development options and freedom to explore the world as you wish. The difficulty of the game does not scale to your character.

• Single player only, like a great RPG should be.

Right but Codex seems to be more gay for Party Games though and Echelon is bland without even the rich exploration factor Spriderweb games offer.

Edit Read it again an he means not Multiplayer single player; :salute: would play it if story was written by someone like MCA or Zeist.

Bout time! Can't wait to hook into this! The plot "twist" at the end of book two was a bit strange, but meh. Book II was an improvement over I , so hopefully III will be even better too.

Eh, I don't know whether to be pumped or not. Eschalon is a weird game; I like playing it, but I don't like playing it. It reminds me of Ultima, with added complexity, but then again it's drearier, slower, and there's no companions. I just don't know; the game world was pretty forgettable and I didn't care, the game was grindy at times, I guess? But it was still a good game, maybe?

Beggars can't be choosers? Sure, there's always room for improvement but the games are pretty good for what they are.
Looking forward to this.

Played through the first one, second one felt better but still got bored halfway through it and quit. I dunno, it wasn't bad per say, just felt mediocre. The slow traveling was a pain sometimes.

Looking forward to this. I liked the first 2 games (but it is not for everyone). Going to finally enjoy the end of this series. <3

Really liked the 2nd one. Cartography mentioned but mostly for exploration, it was enjoyable in that matter. Looking forward for another one and trying again with Book 1 (stopped after 10-15h).

Finally. I played both the previous games & enjoyed them, most of the time. There were some balance issues, but with a self-imposed cap on an especially overpowered skill, it was not much of a problem.

Enjoyed the series for what it is. Don't really dig the plot but will play for the sake of conclusion.
