It's January 13th and as promised, Harebrained Schemes' Shadowrun: Hong Kong Kickstarter is up and running. It's about what you'd expect - another Dragonfall-style campaign, with companions, conspiracy, all that good stuff. The funding goal is a low $100,000, but there are stretch goals going up to $300,000, which include "animatic" slide show sequences, a companion mission, and most importantly, an additional companion at $200,000. I imagine that if the Kickstarter does well enough, there'll be more. Anyway, here's the pitch video and overview:

The team that brought you the award-winning Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director’s Cut is back with an all new, full length standalone cyberpunk tactical cRPG set in Shadowrun's magically Awakened Hong Kong of 2056.

HONG KONG. A stable and prosperous port of call in a sea of chaos, warfare, and political turmoil. The Hong Kong Free Enterprise Zone is a land of contradictions - it is one of the most successful centers of business in the Sixth World, and home to one of the world’s most dangerous sprawl sites. A land of bright lights, gleaming towers, and restless spirits where life is cheap and everything is for sale.

The lure of a quick payday draws you from Seattle into the neon glow of Victoria Harbor… and into a corporate conspiracy nearly thirty years in the making. A terrifying threat looms on the horizon - a supernatural force that corrupts and consumes everything it touches. Dragged into the shadows of Kowloon City, you will need to forge new connections and gain "face" to survive.

Hong Kong contains fantastic elements for a new Shadowrun setting: an underworld of triads, tongs, and gangs to navigate, wild magic to harness, and bleeding edge cybertech to equip. Plus, Hong Kong’s culture is steeped in "guanxi" - a network of influence and relationships based upon a combination of social status, and prestige. All of these elements add up to a great new setting for running the shadows.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong has everything you expect from a Harebrained Schemes Shadowrun game: strong storytelling and sharp writing, lots of morally gray choices, a crew of memorable characters with distinct personalities, challenging tactical turn-based combat, a robust character creation system, and a one of a kind cyberpunk-meets-magic game setting that’s endured for over 25 years.

Our Backers voted for Hong Kong as the next city for us to bring to life and we’re excited to be working on it!

It's not purely a "more of the same" type thing, though. The initial funding goal guarantees some new engine features:

Enhanced Player Controls! In addition to all the new Tech, Magic, Weapons, Consumables, Creatures, and Enemies we're already planning, if we reach our initial funding goal, we’ll add a bunch of interface upgrades. These include the ability to decide which team member picks up an item in free-move mode, item swapping between party members, a player-initiated turn-mode toggle so you can position your team before you enter combat, and a spread-range indicator for shotguns and sweeping melee attacks.
Also, have I mentioned that unlike the previous campaigns, Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a PC-exclusive?

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is being developed for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems only. We have elected to focus all our efforts on PC in order to deliver the best game we can without the current processing and memory limitations of tablets. This focus allows us to have higher-fidelity visuals, larger map sizes, and more stuff on screen.
Take my money!

UPDATE: Well, it's funded! Let's see how many stretch goals they can hit by the end of the first day.

Over 75% funded already... they were pretty savvy keeping the initial goal so low. Gives this one the look and feel of....:hype:

edit: ... and 3 minutes after posting this they're at 85%... :o

Aww yiss! Hopefully that also translates in things like the UI. If they keep improving their SR games bit by bit we'll have a godlike RPG in a couple of campaigns.

When did KS stop working with amazon for payments?
While I don't like amazon, I'm not really in the mood to spread my credit card information even further accross the internet than I've already done... :/

Anyway, going strong so far. ~17k in just the last ~10 min.

I know some people have problems with Amazons payment, so this switch to a new system hopefully allows those people to finally back stuff.

its actually the opposite for me, Amazon always worked great. Not so enthusiastic about giving my card details to a new company. Happy they got funded so quick though.

Nice to see this reach it's goal so fast, shits all over all of those kickstarter burnout clickbait articles.
How much did the original kickstarter make on it's first day?
Edit: 296k apparently

Dragonfall rocked. Glad to see this hit its (admittedly small) goal so quickly.

I second the need for stretch goals to fix the editor.

Hopefully they reach the UI improvements stretch goal. Haven't played the Dragonfall Director's Cut though, and supposedly that introduced some changes as well, so no real clue how far they are from a good mouse-driven interface.

I know some people have problems with Amazons payment, so this switch to a new system hopefully allows those people to finally back stuff.

That used to be the case for me, Amazon Payments didn't want to play ball with my debit card, had to use a prepaid for the earliest kickstarters. All the more puzzling since the Kindle Store always accepted my money with nary an ounce of protest.

It hasn't even been a day, you'd have to find a source that keeps track of hourly pledges.

The best you can get is that the original shadowrun was getting 70k a day on average. But it doesn't mean much since it reached almost 300k on it's first day.
Basically: You'll know by the end of the day.

So first Shadowrun got to 500k in a day or am i reading this in stupid? Not sure the new one will pass it if that's the case, though different goals affect that for sure, among other things.
edit: it got to a bit over 300k, my bad, still we'll see how the new one goes.

Also looking at the the closing update video from Shadowrun returns and the new one and i can't seem to match a single face from the old ones with the new ones, did they their entire staff?

This.

I don't like amazon for several reasons (which I'd expand upon if this were GD), but billing is not one of them. I never had problems backing stuff via amazon and thus would like to know why it's not an option anymore.
