Hanako Games has released their new shareware CRPG Cute Knight. The dungeon crawling part of it is almost like Dungeon Master, only the combat isn't as rapid click as that game was. The rest of the game is a little quirky and a little too cute for my tastes, but it's a different type of diversion. Anyway, here's the release:

I want to release a game called Anime Slayer Knight, where your quest is to ruthlessly slaughter all traces of anime from the land.

But you must admit, being CuteKnight is fucking awesome as well, dude...

BTW, on one of the screens there is attacker identified as "Thief" and options available - "Fight!", "Run away" and last, but definetly not the least - "Tame the monster!" Dude, that's so fucking cute! You can tame your own thief as a pet!

No, seriously, I should get this game - whenever I feel depressed, I just play a bit and ... r000fles!

I don't know, there's something about a CRPG where you're forced to play a woman and there's skills for cooking and cleaning that appeals to me.

I could do without the anime stuff as well. In fact, I think the game would probably be better if they went with more traditional Japanese style tapestry art instead of the cartoonish anime. Then again, if they went with that style art, I guess that would make the avatar maker on their site harder to do.

I've played the demo through twice now. It's fairly simple, but it's fun. The non-dungeon part of the game consists of taking jobs for a week. While doing those jobs, certain skills are raised. The success of that job depends on the level of your skills for that job. So, if you go to the inn and "cook", it depends on your cooking skill as to how many days you get paid out of the week. The more you do that job, the better you get at it. Eventually, this opens the door for other jobs which pay better but rely on more skills.

You can also take classes at the college in order to improve various skills. Depending on the classes, the costs vary. Fighting costs more than housecleaning, for example. Most classes improve multiple skill areas as well. Cooking class will improve potion making.

There's also some funny events associated with certain skills. While studying cooking at the college, some bitch threatenned me and told me to stay away from the Inn's kitchen because she wanted to be the head chef there. I didn't stay away, and she eventually sabotaged a meal I prepared costing me a bit of money. Kind of funny.

The graphics are pretty simple, but the mechanics behind the scenes are pretty nifty.

Oh, that description Pro gave reminded me of an old Princess Raising simulator where you had to grow a princess. Also anime + day-job + dungeon formula and also lots of fun for some unexplainable reason. I got hooked on that shit!

Yeah, that'd be cool - at day you are typical sim, but in the night you turn into dungeon crawler, who hacks its own dungeon which, by accident, happens to be under your house.

If it has lesbians and tentacle rape, I'll play it. Otherwise, no thanks.

Yeah, if they really wanted to capture some of that medieval atmosphere with a modern touch, they'd have professions such as hooker, witch, and stripper (that's the modern touch, unless they had strip clubs in medieval times, in which case sign me up for Creative Anachronists now!). More RPGs should have those, so at least nerds can experience the social stigma and risks of the sex industry viscerally, and realize how degrading and morally depraved their objectification of women really is. Maybe then E3 will be more than just about the booth babes.

Doesn't that come with a pamphlet?

Please do not think that anime is one and only cartoon for kids. There are lots of style inside anime. Just watch different anime movies, like Jin Roh and Samurai X, and then watch the popular kiddie-ones like Slayers and you'll see the difference.

I always find it hilarious when people try to claim that anime is 'Adult's Cartoons'.

They all pander to pre-teens and the ones claimed 'adult' are usually angst ridden crybaby shit with a bunch of gore to make it 'for mature audiences'.

Oh, no, not angsty teens. I don't know, maybe they love it too.
Have you watched Jin Roh?
If you think it's angsty-teen stuff, then Sin City is also crybaby shit, huh?

There's only about 3 anime I've ever seen and liked. Therefore, following standard Codex protocol, these are the only true Anime and anyone who thinks anything else is Anime is a 'tard:

1) Excel Saga
2) Tenchi Muyo
3) Dragon Ball Z

Seen then all.

Excel Saga is plain crazy (it can be hilarious but its the demented crazy type and so not for everyone), Tenchi Muyo is ... meh and DragonBall Z is horrible (DragonBall is decent but Z and GT are horrible, expecialy Z with its 30 episode fight sequences).

There is better, like Cowboy Bebop ... also there are movies like Princess Mononoke.

I understand how anime can be seen in a bad light if you just see DragonBall and Sailormoon ... even Sakura Card Captor (even if the obvious homesexual relations makes that one worth watching) but starting with the old Urusei Yatsura makes it worthy ... I really love that series.
