Ash has outright said several times before that he thinks shoot 'em ups are a worthless genre. He sounds like he'd be the one to simp for euroshmups, if he played the genre at all. It's no surprise he doesn't understand arcade games in general. He only sees games in terms of how complex it looks on paper. He's some console kid who discovered Deus Ex for the first time and has somehow never grown out of his 'I played DE therefore I am a genius' phase. Or something, I don't even know, he's just posting the same shit in every thread.

The only issue with this thread is including "boomer shooter" in the title.

GoldenEye 007 had mission objectives more complicated than find the color keycard for the color door and shoot everything in your way.

So did those "boomer shooters". Everything from Dark Forces to Future Shock/Skynet to Quake 2 had mission objectives. And "shoot everything in your way" pretty much sums up the gameplay of GoldenEye 007.

Mission objectives, or the lack thereof, aren't necessarily indicative of complexity either. The Build Engine shooters have more complex level design than GoldenEye 007.

GoldenEye objectives are just 'destroy the cameras and put a thing on a thing lol'. A bunch of them kind of felt tacked-on and the level design doesn't really allow for much anyway. It's an idea that can't really do much without a better game.

Like with pretty much everything else, Perfect Dark did mission objectives better than GoldenEye did. For example in Defection PA, you have to find a programmer to get you access to a network, but if you just sit there and let him do whatever he wants, he'll delete the Dr. Carroll program and you fail the mission. You have to let him work until the objective completes, and then quickly knock him out before he can screw you.

This came out of nowhere and it actually looks p promising, there is a demo avaiable.

A retro FPS inspired by classic 90s console shooters. Explore new locales, accomplish varied objectives and fight against state-of-the-art 1997 enemy AI. Enter a world of espionage and action.

John Walter, ex-agent codename 64, is called back into action to save the world once more. Protect the future against the phantoms of the past.

Each story mission is a self contained environment where you have to accomplish varied objectives, such as hacking terminals, steal secret plans, free civilian hostages and much more. All the while fighting armed guards in epic shootouts.

Be the most elite operative the world has ever seen!

Loving this blocky aesthetic

Golden Eye was bad and you only liked it because you weren't a based kid who had Mortal Kombat Trilogy instead

speak for yourself, cuck

GoldenEye was the Counter Strike before Counter Strike and the first shooter to have location based damage

I have very fond memories of playing this in MP and even some local tournaments back in the eastern bloc
