OTOH I'm fairly convinced AI is going to wipe out humanity as we know it within 100 years or so as various powerful interests race to see who can create a wish granting genie first without particularly caring if it escapes or results in mutually assured destruction when used in war. So, better enjoy the extra indie games while we can!
This is such a deliciously Dying Earth sentiment. Marvellous.

Don't worry, whatever useful things AI is able to do will be instantly removed/censored just in case, like this:

''GPT6 make me a 3d model of a destroyed car, 4k textures.''
''I apologize, but depicting a car in such a way may offend people who own functioning cars, it's very important that we respect and blablabla (5 additional paragraphs explaining why it cannot do it because morality/legality/the electricity bill)''

You may also say that local models aren't as censored as the corpo models, but they're all decades away in terms of quality. These things take actual billions to train, and investors did start to lose interest recently as AI isn't making any kind of crazy money.
Of course, this is an extremely recent industry so you never know if somebody is going to find a revolutionary method that cuts costs by half or something.
Best case scenario: Voice acting as a career ceases to exist.

Generative AI creates playable version of Doom game with no code

"A neural network can recreate the classic computer game Doom despite using none of its code or graphics, hinting that generative AI could be used to create games from scratch in future"
That's just more of what we already know, ie. an AI could eventually make Ubisoft's next game for them. I don't think that surprises anyone. We're looking for the AI that can create a game akin to Doom via exposure only to games that were released before Doom.

Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
We don't need more content in our overstimulated society.
We need quality and inspiration, and that AI is not able to make.

I would say it is not even the problem of AI but the people that use it. They are all unispired autists that don't actually know anything about aesthetics other than big boob hot.
That is why most of the art they produce ends up looking the same.
Even normies can recognize bad AI art. It's boring, samey, always glowing for some reason.
We need artistry and new ideas and love poured into creating.

But then the AI still needs to learn if gamers actually like its new revolutionary ideas (since they're revolutionary, no human feedback exists yet). Maybe an AI could rely on forced labor for playtesting different ideas, while monitoring their enthusiasm through neuralink.

No AI can generate a story as bad as Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Let's give the robot a chance.

AI will get better in the future, as it got better in the last 5 years.

Just the paradigm needs to change, as it got changed with AlphaZero Chess ditching the database of human chess grandmasters matches. It learned chess from scratch in 4 hours and achieved skill level beyond human and competing AIs capabilities - without seeing single human chess match.

If we'll keep training AI on creations of talentless hacks that can be found on the Internet, there will always be quality and legal issues and the Internet is too small to provide enough examples for networks of the sizes that are currently being built.

BTW, the poll lacks the option 'I hate humans' - so I could not vote.

AI will get better in the future, the problem is these aspiring "developers" and "artist" won't. They'll take a mediocre if not straight up "picture salad" as "Art" because it's "Good Enough".

AI can't be stopped, but every "Art"works that includes AI product should be labelled as "Shovelware", it is created by slop creator for slop enjoyer.

Your mistake, mr. retard is that you take "aaa" game as a standard. Games that push the envelope in term of artistical values almost often are not "aaa" games.

Vidya games like CoD, Valorant, WuKong, Star Wars Jedi Survivor etc. are made, so retard like you can spent money and participate to enrich Capitalistic entities.

Wallahi, the retards from this shit hole never cease to amaze me lmao :)

As a hobby dev I would like to use AI assets more because I can't draw and using store assets limits my creativity. But I'm unsure whether I would actually use it a public product because there are so many people opposed and I probably don't have the patience for managing a shitstorm.
My suggestion would be to commission someone to make some stuff for you. I'm sure it'll take a while for the market to settle, but before long there'll be people good at getting AI to spit out something they can edit in 10 minutes into something that would have otherwise taken them hours, thereby cutting the costs down to something affordable. People without any practice drawing are going to miss all the little things that pop out to artists and make them bitch about how they can't get hands quite right or always draw the same pose.

I think in the long run too, we'll end up with way more and cheaper store assets. Part of the problem with AI is trying to get it to give you something that fits with existing style. If all you want to do is say, generate fantasy portraits or backgrounds and give zero fucks about consistent style and just curate/edit out flaws, you can create a massive library of stock assets to sell for dirt cheap. Someone's going to make a fortune on that with a dedicated website probably.
I think AI-generation would be better for the personal creative expression instead of commissioned produced work. You just have more freedom and options on how to create the content. And, furthermore, you are sure to be doing the work out of your will (if not from the bottom of your heart), while some artist could be rather willing having a couple beers while moving the lawn: there is absolutely no personal attachment to the project. Mind you, this is not to say all artists are bad.
