I just had a good glitch, was on mission 7 crawling in some floor vent, bad guys above talking, opened a hatch behind them to peek out when suddenly Alien ventilating my head animation... then it vanished, leaving me alive, with no sound and unable to walk. The humans were acting like nothing happened, until one on patrol eventually RIPley'd me. The next attempt I just threw a flashbang into the humans and watched the alien paint the room red whilst they screamed they couldn't see, felt p.good.

It isn't popamole because the only enemies that fire back, the humans, are too stupid to take cover.

I'm trying the "Crew Expendable" DLC. For those that just want a tour around the Nostromo, this seems to be their ticket.

It starts just after Brett has had his brain ventilated, and the crew are trying the "flush the thing out through the airlock" trick. You get to choose to play as Ripley, Parker or Dallas.

First part of the DLC involves collecting equipment on the topmost deck. It's small, but the next deck below is not. You get a motion scanner (different than the one in the main campaign, and unusable in lockers) a maintenance tool (?) and a flamethrower, with flamethrower fuel scattered all over the ship...in some bizarre places. One bottle is located right next to the ketchup in the kitchen, I guess someone likes their spaghetti "extra spicy".

Ian Holm's voice actor replacement sounds much better in the DLC than in the main campaign, while Harry Dean Stanton clearly sounds old and tired. :( The other voice actors do a good job, with Weaver being the clear winner.

Gameplay on the lower deck is similar to the main campaign, the monster stomps about, hides in vents, you have to access a couple of computers, go to a location to find Brett's body (?) and then enter the airvents. I lasted about 40 seconds in there before dying, and instead of a "reload" option I got a "load last checkpoint" option, which didn't work. That's the second time playing this game that the save wouldn't load. :(

Oh, and when it comes to non-relevant talk and bodily sounds from models, their faces don't. move. at. all. Listening to Ripley cough like she has lung cancer while making this face is kinda lulzy:

Good grief this game keeps on delivering.

Finished the LV-426/Derelict part and obtained the flamethrower. That was fucking amazing. Fucking. Amazing.

Wow, those DLCs are absolutely "blink and they're over" kinda deals. Together they give a good image of the Nostromo in all its glory, but that's about the only reason to play them. Problem is, the Alien kinda ruins the tour.

I played them on Easy because I was tired of the Alien's antics by that point, and on that difficulty the Alien is dumb as nails. It looked right at me a couple of times and didn't even see me.

There are supposed to be 5 DLCs in total. That's 2 down, 3 to go. One of them will be the final part of the main campaign, no clue what the other two will be.

With all that said, here comes my "short version" opinion of the game:

Q: Do I recommend Alien: Isolation to anyone?

A: Not at full retail price, no.

Q: But at a discount price?

A: If you're an Alien(s) fan(atic) AND can get the game and all the DLCs together, then $20 might be a good deal, anything above that is not. Won't comment on the DLC-free experience as they aren't all out yet.

Q: But is there any reason for non-Alien fans to buy this game?

A: ...not that I can think of, no.

Q: Do I recommend the two Nostromo DLCs?

A: They're $0.99 deals at best, get them at that price if you want them.

Q: So what are the highlights of the game?

A: You get to walk around the Nostromo, one of the most iconic ship interiors ever seen in cinema. Well, technically you do. The developers decided to build a whole base out of that interior and let you run around in that. And...

Q: ...and?

A: ...and the game sounds awesome, at least the music and sound effects.

Q: That's it?

A: ...yeah. Sadly.

Q: WTF?

A: Yeah, making decent games out of this franchise seems to be a lost art.

Q: But it can't be as bad as Colonial Marines, can it?

A: Thankfully it isn't, but it it's not that far from it, either. It shares many of the same horrible game design decisions, and the story is utter shit. There are no memorable characters to speak of and we don't get to see any gory deaths of the important characters anyway.

Q: So it has no redeeming features?

A: ...not yet. There are still DLCs to make and release, maybe they can change that.

TL;DR: Wait to see what the DLCs will be like, then maybe pick it up at a (huge) discount.

Its kinda like Thief+amnesia+alien.

Also the Human Ai is awful. They dont even hide from the alien.

I've noticed the alien doesn't give two shits about androids. One could argue it is only interested in organics, but the Alien Queen did cut Bishop in half in Aliens. I was trapped in a room with an android coming at me, the alien dropped down behind him, ignored the android and came right at me.

Also what was the point of Taylor character.
Rule of three: needed one more person in the boarding party to round things out, and more importantly; get them injured so that the other party member has a logical reason to not accompany you the moment you meet back up.

What Jick Magger said.

One possibility about Bishop being ripped by the Queen is that she didn't "see" him, she was aiming for Ripley but hit him instead.

In the original AvP games, the Alien can't see synthetics, which makes them a little dangerous.

Plus there's the obvious fact that

They needed at least one member of the team to pull the "Corrupt plant sent by Weyland-Yutani to capture the alien" routine, and felt that making it the android again would be too cliche.

At least I felt that her being in the boarding crew made sense, and fills a role that not alot of people really think about when it comes to Sci-Fi: space-lawyers. Because even in the future, of course you'd take a lawyer with you representing the company every time you have to deal with rival corporations who've gotten ahold of your property. Not even being facetious here.

If I hadn't made it obvious yet, yes I decided to give the game a go (though I did pirate it, ain't spending $60 on something I'm not sure of), and feelings on it are mixed so far. Aesthetically it's great in every way save facial animations (and the fact that everybody looks as though they're perpetually drenched in sweat), sound design is brilliant (which it should be, seeing as the game's all about trying to keep track of the alien when you can't even see it), but it's kind of a mixed bag so far gameplay wise. I only just got up to the med-bay (after I got the keycard and the doctor got nabbed), and I'm kinda getting a little bored. Not much to add to the opening that hasn't already been said, beyond the fact that I actually checked the other day, and the aliens don't even make a proper appearance in Aliens until near the midway point of the movie, jesus that movie was well-paced. Humans are dumb as bricks, Working Joes are only a threat if you run directly into one or hit a dead end, and the alien is just kinda...erratic. I admit that sneaking past him isn't completely luck-based, but his movements are so utterly random that at times it just makes trying to get past it tedious.
