Mr. Davis, could you share some of the features of Onyx with us?
What makes it so special?

This was the ONE RPG I was actually looking forward too. Fuck.

Aren't you looking forward to AOD?

Oh yea. I just place AoD in the I'll be buying a copy once it comes out. Period. I'm not too fond of the setting (I honestly wished VD could have used the other setting), but I'm still interested enough.

But Aliens is my FAVORITE Movie/Setting and I was really really really looking forward to it.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!11!

At this point, it's quite impossible that it will come out as 'Aliens RPG'. Maybe they'll pick up some of their leftover stash and transfer it into something else, but it definitely won't be called 'Aliens'.

I suppose I'm the only one who thinks Aliens RPG might still get finished?

Like a Magic 8 Ball, all signs seem to be pointing to No. Though if it is not canceled, I'll be fucking happy!

I wonder if Onyx could be used for the "Fantasy RPG - That we don't have a Publisher for it yet"?

That seems to be a hint if ever there was one.

I don't know, the scenario of Sega temporarily pulling the plug on Aliens until they get revenue from Alpha Protocol still seems more plausible than anything else. I mean, it's already a project that's been going for a while and which Sega has already put a lot of money in. For them to just let it go doesn't seem like good business, to be honest. And as far as giving the project to another developer goes, that doesn't seem to be very efficient either, unless Obsidian really, really fucked up. So I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

I wonder if this means that Alpha Protocol will be rushed out the doors.

My guess is that Alpha Protocol won't be delayed atleast.

It's fairly unlikely that Aliens RPG will be resurrected as I don't actually know of a game that was put on hold and then resumed and still turned out to be the same game. I guess it would depend on the timing of how long it's put on hold, anything more than a few months I would would start to lose hope. It's like saying your putting Torn on hold but if they were to resume now they would have to redo everything besides the concept.

Icewind Dale 2 (Lead Designer)
The Black Hound (cancelled, Lead Designer)
Fallout 3 (cancelled, Co-Lead Designer)
Aliens RPG (cancelled, Project Director and Lead Designer)

It's the curse of Josh Sawyer. Any project he's involved with leading gets cancelled. To break it, he has to make Icewind Dale 3.

That's no hint of life. Sawyer was commenting on whether it's a good idea to include cancelled projects on your resume. He's saying that, just because a project is cancelled, does not mean there weren't people doing good work, as "a project's status rarely hinges on the activities of a single intermediate designer". So, nothing wrong with including cancelled projects on your resume.

Remember, the former dev does list the game as cancelled, this is not just being inferred by his being laid off. This can either be right or wrong. Given we know he worked on the project, it is safe to assume it's right, as he should know and has no reason to lie about it. The only other possibility is that it has been "cancelled" temporarily, but I don't think it likely.

That's because when a game is put on hold, you don't usually go out and tell everyone it's put on hold. There were plenty of games that changed hands, were put on hold for a time, or were partially scrapped during development, and still turned out okay.

Since Josh will not be leaving Obsidian, at least for now, it won't even be a case of "OMG SAME COMPANI DIFFRNT PPL" either. If Obsidian pick it up again a few months down the line I won't worry too much. If they never pick it up, what will be the implications towards their financial situation?

"POOPERSCOOPER WAS RIGHTTTTTTT!"

Then he got on his motorbike and blazed down the desert with a scowl on his face.

I'd imagine that it would be resuscitated in the nigh-impossible event that AP does gangbusters rather than the low side of respectable it will actually do without an orchestrated hype train.

A turn based 4ed dungeon crawler would be awesome. Icewind Dale 3, yep, it's your destiny Sawyer-man. I find 4ed better in strategic terms. Is Onyx open enough to let you implement on it different rule sets?

It should be flexible enough. Obsidian has been planning to use it for at least several future projects.

Anything after DnD 1E is shit.
Not only they left everything useless in 4E - they deleted everything that made its settings interesting.
