If Leon had shown us screens of a map of a Vault in that engine, I think VB would be pretty solidly trumped. It's a tech demo; judge the tech, not the content.
Well for the public there wouldn`t be much diference between between Jefferson and this engine, except for the shadows, that were never properly developed, a few weird things used to happen, and that was not fixed on Van Buren. Now in terms of detail of a vault itt was possible to have more detail in VB, both Van Buren and this wouldpretty much look the same, IMO, the diference was in the number of polygons of the characters (much higher on this one, probably even higher that the ones in Jefferson) and the technics used on outdoors ground, with this one going for full bump-mapping, and in Jefferson and Van Buren they were using a trick with, er, another technic that i don`t remember. This one will surely look better, as far as i know, but i`m no expert.
So it would look better if both engines were fully developed, but not much better.
For developers, and thinking about the future, i`m pretty sure this one is more flexible and doesn`t have the limitations of serving a project intended to be released in december 2004, with just one animator (*sigh*) , so the Troika one is a winer there by a large scale, it can be used to do much more stuff than Jefferson one.
Now leaving the graphics, i hope they develop a small combat system ready for TB, like BIS did with Jefferson, that was set to be RT with a pause, but had the TB component in the hood already thinking about the future (namely fallout3). And i do hope they will someday make the FPSRPG game with iso/TB combat, i really liked the Krondor style.
