Eh, at least this one wont get rushed hopefully like KOTOR2 was. A full game done in 13 months I think it was?

In my country the system operates YOU
Atari isn't marketing because they are hemmorhaging money like crazy.

It doesn't cost a lot to do a million interviews where you talk about soil erosiona nd lighting dogs on fire.

Atari probably won't even be around by the time nwn2 comes out, so why bother hyping it?

In a more perfect world, nwn2 would die with atari.

Behind you.
I'd be kind of interested in knowing what the Obsidian people thought of the way Atari is going. There are some rather interesting parallels between the state of Atari and the state of Interplay a few years ago. The main distinction would be that Atari outright owns the D&D license.

Yeah, but at least Atari doesn't outright own them. KOTOR2, despite the horror of it, sold very well and probably got Obsidian some financial breathing room, and as they've apparently already got another project in the pipe (that console action RPG thing), they're probably okay so long as it's not for Atari.

And even if Atari goes under, it's a fair bet that someone will instantly snap up the D&D license and put out NWN2, essentially just like Atari snapped up the license and NWN from Interplay.

yeah but thanks to Atari the D&D license isn't worth what it use to be:) other wise don't you think Hasbro would have taken it back as well.

Honestly the D&D license was always worth crap, the vast majority of D&D CRPGs is of dubious quality.

Besides who would get the license would do the same thing as Atari, the only thing worth of the D&D license is the name recognition.

I'd call it more a 50/50 situation myself - maybe even more good than bad.

Some have been absolute classics too: POR (the original), EOB2, BG I & II, IWD, PS:T for instance, and the vast majority of D&D CRPGs have at least been passable (with the exception of Pool of Bugs 2 and Descent to Blundermountain).

Of course, the action console hack and slashers, RTS games, and weird stuff like Hillsfar have all been pretty awful. I'd be a lot happier if someone interested in producing actual CRPGs bought the license - but I guess we have to wait for Atari goes under before that happens.

Amen to that, the people running Atari into the ground have way too many off kilter misconceptions about games in general. Atari is also well known for its incredibly rocky relationship with WoTC which only negatively impacts any kind of development with the D&D license.

Somehow they just can't grasp the point of investing in a Dungeons and Dragons computer game for the audience that Dungeons and Dragons is popular with.

Instead its since we do not really understand or like Dungeons and Dragons as a rpg and to avoid frustatingly embarrasing dealings with WoTC where our complete lack of knowledge and repsect for the game shines were taking D&D in whole new directions we decided its about time for the Dungeons and Dragons - the RTS, the fighting game, the racing game, the action game, the space shooter etc- its all just fine if they can all make 2 minute flashy demos in the publishers exec room and if they feature cameos of everyones favorite Dark Elf Drizzt.
