Jeff Vogel wasn't exactly my favourite developer but his games where solid and fun. It saddens me to see him go down the road of :decline:but I can't see how he is ever going to make good games again. He obviously lost his mind after playing Dragon Age so it's time to not care about his incredibly boring new games anymore.

Too bad, but hey - fuck him.

The first is like the crpgs from the golden era of the 90's. Geneforge OTOH is the Biowarianism of those crpgs. Sure, by itself Geneforge is a nice change of pace, like Baldurs Gate was...but eventually that line of thinking is what led to Ass Erect and Gay Elf Buttsecks.

This is bullshit. Avadon is a clear case of "Biowarianism," but Geneforge? No. Geneforge offers factions and choices and consequences never seen in a Bioware game.

And Exile > Avernum

I don't see how C&C made Geneforge better [edit: than Avernum]. You still progressed from the bottom-left of the map to the top-right. Shit felt the same, except with one boring detail instead of another, and OMG THE ENDING TEXT WAS A BIT DIFFERENT!!1

My first childhood cRPG experience was the Exile series (Mac). I was somewhat obsessed with them. They were and still are excellent cRPGs. I have not played Jeff's newer games, but for creating Exile he will always be a great man in my eyes.

And Exile > Avernum

Oh most definitely. Exile 1+2+Blades of Exile were awesome and the best Vogel has ever done. The spells were the best part. The fireball/fireblast animation still looks sweet.
And you could summon daemons. And wall spells that really affected combat and your strategy.

Exile III had great improvements, such as pictures for npcs that were well drawn and beautiful outdoor areas...BUT he fucked up by making giant cockroaches the main enemy!
