Avowed character creation has pronouns - Elon Musk disapproves, Obsidian art director disapproves of his disapproval

Eh... as if, even when he was full time game director, he could deliver on his own vision, and the minions were following that vision correctly. As if they will follow it any more accurately now. You know better.

I'm not playing this game, Infinitron.

That's not the point. For one thing, Chris' tweet seemed to imply that Josh Sawyer was refusing to work on Avowed because he dislikes the game that much. Evidently, that's not true. I'm not trying to say anything about the game's quality.

Sawyer didn't exactly seem engaged or thrilled with the idea of working on a title that is a spin-off (whatever you want to call it) of an I.P he was initially heavily involved with.

That doesn't look off to you at all?

Since this thread is about Musk and pronouns, reading about Avowed and I saw someone point out Twitter has pronouns in German:

Basically "followers" has a male and female form, so its corrected to the inclusive "followers-they-them" in german. Clean your room, Elonia!

Sure it's off. But not relevant to what I posted. Chris said something inaccurate and I corrected him, that's all.

So, it's been in development for how long exactly 3-4 years? Sawyer as of last week, in that article you linked, says he is now in an advisory role.

Lol. Ok man...you "corrected" Chris.

Josh was probably brought in at some point on the basis that the game is an obvious hot mess and the diversity hires plaguing the company required input from someone much more competent than themselves.

Chris is at least consistent with his progressive ideology - he's a rare breed of progressive for that reason. Perhaps in no small part because much like J.K Rowling, he's experienced what it's like when fellow progressives sense blood in the water and turn on one of their own.

Incidentally, his statements on how to handle politics in a story is exactly how I prefer it. Leaving it up to the reader/player to come to their own conclusions based on the circumstances innate to the setting as opposed to simply preaching at them and pushing a specific viewpoint as overwhelmingly correct.

It's why older RPG's resonate with me more than the slop pushed out in the current era and many of the former are before my time, so I've had to do a fair bit of digging to find them.

Josh probably just did some interface work or some game script, and I doubt Avowed is in any way his game. He's not designing systems, writing lore, or in charge of the look of it.
That said, he gave an interview recently where he was asked how developers feel about gamers on Twitter talking about forced diversity and pronouns and such, and he said he used to care and used to get mad, but now he just ignores them and doesn't care. He's not really opposed to it, and the people you are talking about are probably his friends.

He says he's "helped out with some system design". What that means exactly is anybody's guess.

"Yeah, make the freeze effect have diminishing returns, to prevent stunlocks; here, copy this funciton I wrote about it." - I helped.

But he has basically said the same in the past about Neverwinter Nights 2, and he says his input was very minor and it wasn't "his game".

Also to add on to what you're saying, there is a culture of "positivity" in studios where no 'negative criticism' is allowed, as reported by people who worked making the Concord game, and also present in Ubisoft. They are, literally, not allowed to be "negative" at work, criticizie project goals, the game direction, etc. Everyone is mandated to be 'supportive' of the project's direction.
Happiness is mandatory. Failure to be happy is treason. Treason is punishable by summary execution.

Probably advised them not to go full retard with all the woke shit, which they ignored.

In that article you linked he finishes by saying he's no longer interested in the Pillars I.P.

RPG Site: Last year, I asked what you'd want to make if you, hypothetically, had unlimited time and budget: Fallout New Vegas 2, Pillars of Eternity 3, or Pentiment 2, and I think that question got picked up by tons of outlets with headlines like "Josh Sawyer wants to do Pillars 3". I wanted to know how you feel about that specific question now. Would you still want to do Pillars 3?

Josh Sawyer:
I don't know. I feel like now Avowed is where the Pillars universe has kind of gone. And it'll be interesting to see where the audience picks up on that, and maybe that's where the Pillars universe kind of goes in the future. So I think there's a lot of different possibilities of what to do in the future. I do think that I am more interested in doing original IP necessarily, than existing IP. But we'll see where the future takes me.
He'd rather start over from scratch than work on another Pillars entry, a series he helped create...

But they lured him in Shillitron! Whatever you say

This thread, and also The Veilguard thread, reminds me of an old video featuring Kevin Smith doing a lecture with Q&A at a university. At some point in the Q&A, a lesbian student asks Kevin Smith why he put in his movie Chasing Amy a character saying "all that any lesbian needs is a good dick to turn her around" which was something that made her dislike the movie, because that message spreads a harmful stereotype and yada yada. You can see Kevin Smith being puzzled but playing it off with humor, in short: Smith tries to explain to the student that that was a line uttered by the idiot character and he trusted his audience to know that the movie and therefore him the writer/director didn't pass it up as truth.

That lecture was from the 2000s. 20-ish years has passed since then. The signs of the decline in media literacy, even on university students, were already there. Granted maybe it's naive of me to expect that universities teach critical thinking as part of their curriculum.

Nuance is verboten, the moral of the story must be hammered down in a way that would make children's literature writers blush.

Maybe because the realisation finally dawned that apart from some halfway decent sub stories in PO1 the entire series is a steaming pile of hot garbage?
