By the by, I have heard, from an acquaintance of mine, a "leak" about the upcoming game, one which is interesting, and therefore probably not true. Supposedly, if you choose a "custom" character, instead of the one of the pre-generated ones, the plot twist will be that we are the child of a Bhaalspawn. If you didn't pay attention in Throne of Bhaal, the children of Bhaalspawn are also Bhaalspawn.

As to something more realistic, the aforementioned Minsc comic in its last two-three issues really lays on the theme of contracts and deals with infernal powers. It even introduced several factions competing for gaining the largest amounts of souls via deals. Taking this into account, I would say it's almost certain that early on in the plot we will be forced to make a contract with a Devil in order to stem the ceremorphosis process. This will also probably the point at which the Illtihid part of the story gives way to the Dead Three.

No, Limited Wish has limitations.

Wish can't replicate the effects of other 9th tier spells, create a divine spark, replicate the effects of a epic tier spell

But i agree with other things that you said. There are no reason to develop technology in a world that you have magic.

Why waste time making a grenade launcher, when you can literally read a book and have a "arcane grenade launcher" in your head ie - fireball. Why develop engines when you have animate objects? Why develop medicine when you have heal and other cleric spells? Magic has a insane advantage over technology. You can't "disarm" a magician.

Can the Wish spells replicate spells higher than 9th level, or are they also limited by Mystra's decree? This isn't clear to me since genies are not part of Toril, or even of the Prime Material Plane, and therefore would not be limited by an outsider god (to them).

Gameplay wise? If cast with the alternate modfier where you might lose permanent access to the spell it can do literally everything the Dm allows. All gods are dead, reality itself unravels and in the rapture a new world is formed in which we are playing a super weird high concept campaign is gameplay wise a valid wish when the DM allows it, there are no rule bounds on the upper level of wish. The only condition is that the DM likes it and doesnt fuck you over or flat out denies the wish.

Best way to gauge the lore powerlevel is probably to track down canon uses of the wish spell - however those will be hard to find since Wish is used very sparingly in the lore due to the open ended nature.

Historically a Wish however is just level 9.5 magic. It can do a bit more than conventional level 9 spells but should be beneath level 10 spells in effect. A boring interpretation if you ask me.

Pathfinder 2e moved Wish among with other high level spells to 10th tier and made it so only a 20th level caster can cast once per long rest, which is virtually the same of taking then out of the game... Wish, probably will not be on BG3, and if will be, will be a story specific scroll.

-------------------------------

Anyway, i really wanna to play a 2e campaign on Netheril. The idea of creating your own floating city and using spells like Tolodine's killing wind is so amazing. It is like a poison arcane Tsar bomba. Or Mavin's create volcano,

Has someone brought up the idea that the tidepoles work differently on the party members because we are all Bhaalspawn (or some other god's spawn)? That would explain why Minsc won't be a party member even though there's nothing stopping non-infested from joining us.

Baldur's Gate III by Larian Studios - Early Access in August (maybe)

My assumption aswell. I assume the explanation for the players power will be some sort of chain reaction between your inherent force and your tadpole. That is if Larian is to be trusted to improve their writing a little bit with BG3.

I've been staking that claim since Day 1 of the announcement, under a different alias. There's also a post above about a leak I've received from a friend in the industry, where supposedly a "custom" origin will be a child of a Bhaalspawn, and therefore a Bhaalspawn himself. This has only become reinforced when Larian Studios, during their A.M.A., claimed sternly that this is a direct sequel to the previous titles. Sorry, but literally the only thing gelling Baldur's Gate and Shadows of Amn together is our fact of being a Bhaalspawn. This is literally the only requirement to being a "proper" sequel.

We know that the tiptapdoes work differently because it’s a new model not made for create mind flayers.

D&D Dice Adventures also has connective tissue to our other Dungeons & Dragons games. You’ll see characters such as Minsc and Boo, Khalid, and Dynaheir from the Baldur’s Gate series of video games. The upcoming Baldur’s Gate III video gamefeatures a storyline about mind flayers using illithid tadpoles to create advanced soldiers and our use of Ioun stones shows where that tech came from.”

it can’t be more clear

None of this changes the fact that tadpoles quite literally eat the brain and take-over the body of its host, and it is a very quick process - something which even the trailer for the game portrayed. Something within the plot must prevent our party from becoming Illithids.

It explain why there is no timer and spamming rest is fine: because is not eating the brain but boosting the brain powers.

I was maybe hoping the rogue Illithid were seeking divine blood in order to create the Adversary forcefully. Which woukd be more interesting than "supersoldiers lel".

The method of creating an "Adversary" is already known - you need a concoction known as "laethen", but it has to be consumed BEFORE the process begins. Also, it was invented by a (former) human, so unless the Illithid in the trailer is that particular person, I'm afraid that concept is out.

You don't get the ceremorphosis process - the tadpole becomes the brain, and uses the host's brain as nourishment.

If the reveal trailer is anything to go by, the "new" tadpoles work even faster and are more volatile.

People who haven't played PnP 5E, or maybe in general, don't have any idea how rare even +1 items are. In Dragon of Icespire Peak, there are a grand total of 2 +1 items, 3 if the DM creatively interprets a reward instruction, and they are specific items requiring proficiency to wield well.

They are not that hard to get if you play Adventurers League, the intended offical format (not that you should, AL is fucking gay).
Official adventures give them out rather regularily, Curse of Strahd has a good dozen of them laying around, although you will probably find only half of them at most. They are more common in homebrew settings usually. They are not terribly rare, by the time monsters with immunity to nonmagical damage show up noone in the party is still dealing nonmagic damage.
Curse of strahd dont have many good magic items, gulthias staff ,one cursed wizard staff then one regal +2 plate armor , one +2 sword at the very end. Even getting a silvered weapon is already a feat . Then it has artefacts , the holy symbol of ravenkind and the sunsword, not evena ttunable for everyone and only a counterpart to strahd godly powers.5e is balanced so you can play without any magic items.
