I wonder why Fargo tweeted the info about BG3.
Maybe there is a collaboration with inxile and larian?!
Also is there any proof that larian did buy the license?
But the real question should be:
Can I import my char from BG2 to BG3 ?:shredder:

He's actually buying back Interplay + securing I.P rights for BG3, inXile/Obsidian to co-develop.

Or he's on the squeezins.

Or this may be published by WotC (Digital Games Studio) itself, whether it's developed by inXile or not.

And what to make of this?

Considering how Avellone is usually clueless about what other companies are doing when he's not involved, looks like he's involved. And he's a Larian bro, so.

As for Fargo, he declined to comment further, saying in an email only that he "really should not say more."

And what to make of this?
Exactly what it is. Fargo thought he'd do a wink-wink, but accidentally confirmed my post, causing an avalanche of articles. Now he's feeling guilty as fuck.

I bet on wotc/hasbro, the BG saga is ended so there is no reason own directly the first two games.

they take some ex obsidian some ex inxile some ex bioware some ex larian

“from the creators of every single isometric rpg”

slap in some name like “matt mercer and critical role” - “chris avellone” (he is going to write one single npc on chapter 6 )

“betrayal at BALDURS GATE: THE THIRD coming”

Avellone is everyone's bro and Larian explicitly denied it.

I'm thinking (assuming we're talking an indie studio shelling out for a license) that whoever is working on a BG3 is about to find out just how meaningless Baldur's Gate is as a brand - at least for the sales numbers they'll need to pull in if they are to spend anything making the game. Licensing BG seems like licensing the fact you'll be giving away a pound of flesh to Hasbro.

It could've made some sense for inXile, seeing how they've alienated their core audience and failed to gain anything or anyone by it. Maybe, I doubt they're doing it. Is Fargo still calling it quits after W3?

Larian is succeeding with their own property (I hate putting it in those terms), they have plans to expand and would be better off developing something new instead - something they'd own.

It would probably make some sense for a shitty mobile game, just for the shitstorm (/attention) it'll cause in some niche communities, I guess?

Avellone is everyone's bro and Larian explicitly denied it.
"I did not have a sexual relations with that woman" was also an explicit denial.

But Larian has no public accountability. They want to deny it, they're free to, and it's the right thing to do. It's not how they planned building the marketing campaign around it, they don't want to change all plans because of Fargo being a dick, so it's denial. Understandable.

It is starting to sound like Fargo actually bought the rights to Baldur's Gate and is now beating the marketing drum. It also very typical of Fargo to get the rights to old games that Interplay worked on too.

I'm expecting a Baldur's Gate 3 figstarter to pop up soon.

InXile looks like it'll be bankrupt soon, unless Wasteland 3 sells or something like BG3, where they ruin another beloved franchise.
To be completely honest, I don't think Inxile spent a single dime on BT4. I believe they got some money from the state of Louisiana or city of New Orleans to open a studio there. They will survive this debacle.

Will Fargo invest the massive profit of Bards Tale 4 into the new Baldurs Gate?
He does not need to. Something like BG3 Fig or Kickstarted could again bring about massive backer numbers. If Fargo is behind this, that is a smart move from him.

The guys who brought you classics like Numenera and Bards Tale 4 now will make a new Baldurs Gate! You know you can trust us, gib moniez please!

Wizards of the Coast has zero interest in working with Deadbeat Fargo again, he'll never get a D&D license.

What makes you say that, its not like WotC have been particularly picky in handing out their IP in recent years.

For some reason I thought the Kickstarter for PoE came before the Torment KS, guess I was wrong.

Edit:
Oh nevermind, I think I just misunderstood this:
Planescape being off the table may have also affected Obsidian's decision to Kickstart a new IP in Project Eternity rather than pursue something Planescape.
This is talking about PoE2 I think.
