Hi everyone!
Ooh why did we list our favourite games! :D
Welcome to our hellhole.
Mentioning TES post Morrowind and Two Worlds as your favorites in Codex is not really a wise thing.
Not mentioning Troika games is a serious heresy and punishable by tranny assrape.
Also, liking Biowhore games post BG2 = Exterminatus.
Just a few friendly tips mate.

It will be a proper cRPG.
Story is crucial for us, and we hope that we can create NPCs who have real personalities.

Well then, I hope you have prepared a good kickstarter pitch for crpg enthusiasts. And informative too. I will probably support you, if the the pitch is good and informative, and you know what you want to make. Most folks here want a crpg (and by that we don't mean Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Oblivion or Skyrim, but games like Fallout, Arcanum, Baldur's Gate, Bloodlines etc.). Yours seem like it will have some nice, fresh ideas. Eagerly awaiting the kickstarter to see what you offer. And I wish you luck. :salute:

Kickstarter is really a good thing it allows indies to create unique original worlds, bold adult stories a mainstream publisher could not possibly accept, it allows you to try risky things :

"Now that Nasrus revealed his plot, the kings of Balrum sent their armies to the borders of the unknown lands captured by Nasrus. The power of the undead armies had been greatly underestimated. No one survived the battles. Without the armies of the kings, chaos has overcome Balrum. Large bandit clans formed and started to live by their own rules....."

Too early to judge but with oblivion level of plot and eschalon gameplay, it will certainly be entertaining, sort of.

I don't know about this one...? Combat does not look exciting at all (give me full party turn-based please) but the world looks quite well done for a two man indie team.

Looks most of all like Eschalon, which itself was a competent but bland effort (though I did buy Book 2). Nothing really exciting but worth keeping an eye on.

If the modifying games list for each press sendout thing is true, though, screw that. Game isn't exciting enough for me to overlook that kind of dickery and pledge $.

We don't understand the problem with the "modifying games list" thing. We simply forgot to mention Arcanum on our website under "About Us".
We checked all our sent out emails and they are basically the same!
Can you explain what the problem is?

Thanks for the nice comments guys, they work better than coffee! :)

To be fair, their website seems to have two different listings, one of which is basically identical to the one sent to the Codex (excluding Diablo). Fine, in lieu of further evidence I retract my Internet Rage.

BalconyTeam, since you're hanging around, what would you say is the big selling point of your game compared to other options available such as Eschalon or even the Spiderweb games? I watched the video, but what's something that sets Balrum apart?

The number of things to do in the world, and probably the most important thing(for us), a living world!

Well, there's house building. That can be very interesting if the game world makes it necessary (shelter, protection...).

I like roguelikes, and the combat in those is probably even more straightforward than in this.

How deep is the combat system?

I like what I see, Roguelike meets Harvest Moon/Minecraft. Just please add a ZOOM feature, I'm too blind for such small elements... :(

I'm a big fan of unreal world and as mondblut mentioned it looks similar. Will probably pledge enough for a copy of the game at least, assuming the kickstarter pitch keeps my interest.

ITT a lot of try-hard edgy morons fishing for Kodex Kewl points by bashing a decent-looking indie effort.

This game doesn't really look like my cup of tea but it certainly seems much better than Eschalon judging by the alpha and provided they fulfill half their promises.

It looks OK-ish to me. Doesn't really get me hyped, but I can see myself playing this rather than other stuff for a few weeks.

C'mon man that was a joke. ;)
But the tips are true though.
Just be careful with the words Bethesda, Bioware, action, consoles, and real time (with pause) combat around here.
The Codex is a diverse imperium and full of civilized denizens like angry mobs, horrid fanboys, dirty libruls, Prosperian minds, melonheads and neanderthals.

Please don't forget to make horse armor DLC and hearthfire house DLC, The Codex loves those things!
Your team will bathe in their sweet sweet jewgolds money mate!
No, I'm serious.

Joke aside, if you really want to make a living world, please consider to be more like Ultima especially U7 than Skyrim and shit.
You and the team could also learn a lot of things from Darklands and Realms of Arkania series, although they are not open world games.
Also, if you guys are cool and bros why don't you play Teudogar, at least try the free demo for a few hours.
I promise you'll learn a thing or two about immersion and good design in this unknown gem.

Anyway, good luck to you guys! And don't take the Codex too seriously, we're just that fucked up. :obviously:

Darklands and Realms of Arkania series ... are not open world games.

???
I mean today's definition of open world games defined by Bethesda with their 3D no loading shit in the game world except for area transitions (I think Todd Howard ever said that thing),
mostly on technological and graphical stuff than design perspective, not the classic concepts like nonlinear explorations, no virtual walls etc.
C'mon this Balcony Team listed Skyrim among their favorites, so I have to speak with this context in mind to make the communication effective and understanable man.
