This is all too good, I'm gonna jot this all down. Maybe for future DLC. I'll call it "Straya".

Just make sure you don't move into an underground fallout shelter and develop the game for the next 20+ years

I'll definitely have something out in 20 years time, but I won't rule out working on it for 20+ years time especially if I want to get around to getting the "Straya" content in :P

Dead thread.
Anyway I was toying with idea on using and kind of abusing level scaling system.
What do I mean?
Company level max is 3(when merc get level 4 he should retire on next visit in city) or 4(retiring on 5 - so you can enjoy them longer and veterans actually have weapon perk available).
That provide reasonable perks(like rally the troops and rotation).
Wonder how it would go?
It would provide different challenges as troops management would be different. Also money spend on retiring. Battles would be different(high losses allowed). Low fatigue would make heavy armor redundant. Same goes for bows(low ranged skill) or two handers(low defense). Kind of interesting.
How strong crises would be? Or end game locations(had idea of attacking black monolith with 1lv party of beggars).
How high enemy parties would go? Would they get to the level that player would be cumber stomped?
Too bad that nobody can modify exp gain rate or lock levels.
Anybody want to play this challenge and report it?
I kind of want but I really can't force myself to play it. :(

On the highest difficulty you can, I think, run into enemies that will just butcher you (orks with maybe a warrior or two and berserkers, bandit marksmen etc) in the first few days... Or at least I did in the past in the release version. Maybe patches have changed it?
Also enemies can outnumber your party substantially. I used to run 6 man party for extended amounts of time during the early access days but release version made that sort of unsustainable even early game... Or maybe I just got unlucky.

Lower difficulties this might work though.
Keep in mind lvl 3-5 limits stamina a lot so you cannot carry heavy armor (best way to mitigate RNG) unless you make a dedicated "stand there and take it" troop. And the enemy may ignore those in favor of softer targets.

Well. Veteran should be alright, expert probably not - as it count on level scaling working well(and it probably sucks as level scaling in general).
Currently my first challenge
Day 4 - band of roving dead - 1 necromancer with 13 zombies(few armored).
My company 1-2lv, 9 soldiers, spears mostly and paper thin armor.

Also I really like this game. Long break really help it. Just do not tell - you know who.

I won. No losses. Send two guys around when rest fall back on high ground and take main zombie assault. Necromancer stay behind with one armed zombie and get killed. Although his boosted guard almost kill one of my soldiers.
Possession is a hell of the skill but necromancer AI isn't to bright.
Also fight give me a lot of EXP(not want) and only few coins and one half broken short sword. Hm.
Also fuck zombie noises. Why they not make separate slider for background noises(voices) - separate from clanking weapons and armors.

I won't lie, I've been sneaky playing BB after I decided to take a 3 day break, it soon turned into a 5 day break. Nevertheless I am back to work now :P

EDIT: It feels fresh after coming back to it after several months. Have to give credit where it is due!

W-w-w-whaaaatt? A-a-aare you a
GERM-man
?
Filthy Krauts are everywhere. Subverting everything. Worse than Jews. And Canadians. Holy Mother save me from this peril.
Confusion and blaming Germany increased greatly.

Scaling work for now. I do mostly caravan escorts(did like 4 of them, day 20. Have one nice fight against 5 raiders(two polearms)+3 poachers(my 10 guys level 1-3 plus 3 in reserve) that go extremely lucky(just kidding pure skill on my side) as they did not land single heavy hit.
Fought 10 auxiliaries - no losses - they die easily if hit and lack power.
Mostly see thugs and poachers roaming around but I get one 3 star mission with raiders and marksmen - abandoned obviously.
Getting decked in brigand mails and gambesons(plus leather from shops).
Typical knecht have Colossus+Dodge+Rotation spear/short sword+round shield, 70-90point armor body and cap.
Have only one original xbowman. Put two other companions in reserve as I want them see assault on Black Monolith.
Money balance is not high but never hardcore scrapping to buy pack of tools or food moments like happen earlier(putting high starting funds and beginner economy helps).
Will go with level 4max and retiring on level 5th(1000 exp to get on lv4 and another 1000 to get level 5th). Although level 5th and retiring on level 6th also look interesting as it unlock weapon perks. And increase time that soldier stay with company.
Will report more.

I notice that company default fast to white faces in case of morale. Dunno what about this.

Indeed. Where are you from, anyway?

To be fair, we balance this out by perpetually subverting ourselves/our own nation. Sawyer-style balance.

Interesting. Maybe my early run-ins with high-tier mobs and huge parties was just a bug? It was on highest difficulty though shortly after release.

Let us know if the black monolith fight is scaled or not.

Oh Queen of the Heaven save me! From perfidious Krauts!

I am pretty sure Black Monolith is scaled as I seen somebody screenshot with Auxiliaries and legionaries camping it when my had only high level undead.
I can discard some of my high level troopers on other save and hire beggars and run to check - dunno if garrison would change and scale down. Probably not.
Devs changed balance of scaling from earlier release versions and its more forgiving. Starting with high funds/begginer economy on expert combat also help ALOT. To bad that there is no chance to modify items/perks/backgrounds or enemies.
Seriously merging some perks and lowering amount of levels would help game as it would squash stat inflation. Some perks could be background related, learned from events or from Veteran Hall. Making gains from some perks flat instead of percentage would also help it. As now great attributes gain only contribute to grind and stat inflation - nothing good. Over 11 leveling was a mistake(as is in current shape).

Have some fight with legionaries(3) and Aux(9). It go well. On the other hand my fight against 12 Auxiliary almost ended in rout(2 or 3 dead) as my guys were freaking. Spooky bones.
Brigand marksmen start appearing but in low quantities.
Had bloody fight against small camp in forest and lost my lone xbowman against them.
Overall its going pretty well although I lose some of mercenaries and soon some will be retiring.
My equipment is mostly leather/mail with auxiliary helmets. Still using spears but also get some of mid tier swords9thanks legionares).
Seriously too bad that there is no restored version of skeleton armors and weapons as they look pretty dope. I would probably could even do this(not very good but good enough) but at best I could replace current one and that is not the point. What a waste.

Anyway too bad that Nimble is not low level perk(it would be really strong as it).
I know that I could probably save edit them(and wipe out exp so my favorite mercs could stay longer with me) but well...

I would really love it if they surprised us with any more BB content

Some anime girls with boob plate would be nice.

That actually is easy to do.
Even I could do that. It would be not very good but its doable. Thing is all text, names and backgrounds would stay the same.
But imagine all that sexy orcs(female) or goblins(female).
I bet you all want it now.

Huh, had no idea sser had written a fantasy novel previously. Looks like he's no stranger to KDP

It was shit.

However, I have a whole bunch of smut on there, haven't put any up in a long while and I still get the occasional check.

Could you talk a bit about the arrangement you have with Overhype on Wolfmother? Is BB IP being licensed out to you? It's KDP so there's no publisher?

Nope just based in the BB setting. Technically, it's a prequel but I don't want to give too much away. I wrote it very quickly to match with BB's anniversary.
