Beamdog working on a new D&D CRPG (cancelled)

They are never going to be making a turn-based D&D game.
Turn-Based is the new "cover-based shooter", look at nu-xcom and nu-DivineDivinity.
There is going to be a surge of popamole nu-turn-based games appealing to the lowest common denominator.
It's very likely that Beamdog will make a nu-turn-based game.

I know you're joking but let's consider it for a moment of this humble post....
At best it may end like Legend of Grimdance where a bunch of indie devs* made vastly inferior copy of vastly inferior game inspired by old genre
But how bad these "inferior copies or turn-based RPG/tactical game" might be? Terribleness or LoG clones was obvious but here? Who know...

*don't count one bigger studio that made M&M X, it was just an experiment that went nowhere and got burned

Many forum-dwellers are about to finally realize that turn based gameplay is no guarantee against dumbing down combat mechanics.

People need to generally think on more of a theoretical level rather than being limited to what has came before them.

It will be interesting if the game turns out to be a visual novel/dating sim with rpg elements. You will go out on a date with all kind of d&d heroes and monsters.But..... i am not sure if Beamdog's writers are up to the job.

Don't they have just the Gaider to write them a decent bestiality fantasies date simulator?

Yeah, still i think that black shemale softcore with a little bit of furries porn is their forte. For dating sim/visual novel you need to at least have observed people communicating. There a lot of dialogue in those types of games,it is hard for a social wankers to write.

that would be an actual game I'd play though; japanese style dating sim where you get to leave drizzt to be sodomized by a beholder and such
but beamdog will never go for such novelties... instead they'll choose some successful cRPG (I'm sure Divinity OS is a contender) and try to mimic that as close as possible, while retaining their awful writers from SoD and the EE's.

Axe Designs

Headsman's axe designs I did for Beamdog.

Seriously, the person behind this needs to learn how an actual axe works. :D Being forced to split wood with these for a week would be a fitting punishment.

You were asleep many months ago when they fired their two main writers for SoD?

Familiarize yourself with the concept called fantasy.

I like fantasy, but even in a world of high magic an axe that looks less practical than even the most impractical ceremonial weapon we have in our world seems unbelievable. Is this a weapon supposed to kill my enemies? Then it should look the part.

Those aren't axes, they're faggot fashion accessoires.

...
right, that's Beamdog we're talking about here, so they fit perfectly
carry on

I guess you could spin a story that the weird shape helps magic to cling to the blade or whatever... but you would have to integrate that into worldbuilding. I can bet diamonds against nuts, hell, against empty nutshells, that the concept artist does not, in fact, take any such aspect into consideration.

Surely this must be some kind of joke? Those designs are so fucking awful I feel like the person designing them must be aiming to ridicule fantasy or something.

Zoomed out some of the look somewhat decent-ish but zoomed in... Holy hell.

I've seen utterly weird-looking weapons in real life, and they are still practical enough to work in combat. Which is why such blatantly unrealistic and frankly boring designs always surprise me so much.

Why make your weapons look retarded in order to be cool, if you can make them look both practical AND cool?

Hi!!!

DKWlnLcUMAA6SM1.jpg

September, we hardly knew ye.

2.4 Available on iOS!

Forget the fall pumpkin spice announcements, all of the Enhanced Editions on iOS are now 64-bit supported! If you’ve been holding off on getting iOS 11, now’s the time to get it!

Chris Joins the Party

Another new face has joined the Beamdog team! Early last month we welcomed Chris as a producer/designer working on an unannounced project. Chris started his career in England during the Dreamcast days. Since then he's worked on nearly all modern gaming devices in a multitude of roles. He loves narrative RPGs, music with beeps in, and virtual reality. Welcome to the team, Chris!

The Edmonton Expo

Edmonton Expo was a great show and we’ll be back again next year! We met an amazing number of Beamdog fans and introduced the Enhanced Editions to a whole host of people who fondly remember the originals. We even had a bunch of the original Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II team members (the ones we don’t already have working at Beamdog anyway) drop by the booth to share stories about the development of those games. Some of our newer team members banded together for a panel to do a great talk about their experiences in the industry and how they got their job with Beamdog. For those of you asking when we’ll be coming to a convention near you, plans are already in the works to take the Beamdog booth on the road in 2018!

SoundtrackArt_IWD.png

What’s Next?

As mentioned in our 2.4 patch notes for Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition, we’ll be continuing to update and support our Infinity Engine games.. The next update series, which we’re calling 2.5, will be rolling out across all platforms and all stores on both desktop and mobile. We’re especially excited about this update as we’ll finally be bringing Steam achievements and the Shaman class, among other things, to IWD:EE. Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition 2.5 and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition 2.5 will be coming shortly after IWD:EE 2.5. We’ll have more to share about this patch and plans for an accompanying open beta soon!

Don’t worry PST:EE fans! We haven’t forgotten about Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition, the other Enhanced Editions need a little work before we return to Sigil.

As we ramp up on the next series of patches, we’re improving how bugs are being reported. We’ve posted instructions on bug reporting on support.baldursgate.com and frequent forum users may have noticed that our Community Manager, Julius has been helping players report bugs in redmine. If you’re ever having trouble filing a bug, just drop him a note and he’ll create a report for you.

Get the latest Beamdog news on Facebook, Twitter, here on the Beamblog, and in our forums!

Sherry

While I generally think Pol Pot's policy to drag people from the cities and force them to do manual labor was somewhat counterintuitive, it is something we should reconsider for concept artists.
Any activity that requires you to swing a piece of metal around gives you an idea how the shape, size and weight of an object affects its utility, but it feels like the concept artists rather copy things you' see in Korean MMO's and call it a day.

Chopping wood for week with this shit will give you a 18 strength and 18 endurance. You are pretty naive to think that Beamdog's people know that axes are used for chopping.

Where did you get this idea from?
