I'd still be using Windows 95 if I could.

Asynchronous saving
Many of you might not be aware that Factorio has support for saving your game in the background, without freezing while it does so. This feature is tucked away in the hidden settings and only works on macOS and Linux. This is one great example of taking advantage of a platform's features to benefit the game, which would not be available to us if we simply went through Proton.
Asynchronous saving works by using the fork syscall to essentially duplicate the game. The primary instance - the one you interact with - continues playing, but the newly forked child runs the saving process then exits on completion. I have used it for many years and have never had issues, but the setting remains hidden because there are a few unsolved problems with it and it requires a significant amount of RAM to work.
I would love to promote this feature away from its hidden status in 2.0. If you are playing on Linux or macOS, please enable asynchronous saving (ctrl+alt+click Settings -> "The rest" -> non-blocking-saving) and report any issues you find. I am particularly interested in reproducing a seemingly random freeze that occurs at the end of the process. Thank you in advance!
Comment trees like these are one of the reasons not to touch any linux distro at any timesAs if someones butthurt and saying things that sounded smart in their brains as - "removing woke content for you chuds by deleting whole repo hurrr hurrr hurrr" will do anything.[sarcasm] And here I was thinking the lih-buh-ruls were the tolerant folk... [/sarcasm]Those fuckers are really salty.

This was such a stupid thing to do. Especially as it was so ineffectual.
It seems like they just wanted to argue on the pull request comments, because it is hard to imagine someone being so delusional and out of touch...
Then again, it is woke activists.
New Шindows always sucks. XP was lackluster at release, Vista sucked horribly, 8 was a mess...Why are you people still using Windows? Unless it's a 100% work machine (and your job is locked to Windows only solutions) I see no need to suffer this shit.
Lemme guess, the same amount of RAM as the game itself uses?it requires a significant amount of RAM to work

The only better solution would be to have a second machine to run the same game where it could save itself for all the money
Out of curiosity, does anyone use any of the BSDs to play games?
You may as well just dive into Arch. The learning curve is tough, but you'll learn a lot fast. Patience is key. Thankfully, there are a lot of resources available if you get stuck.A distribution built on Arch Linux
Because if indeed Cachy is truly this good, then why the fuck would I waste my time learning Arch or any other distro...
You would do well to heed this, even if you're someone experienced.I'd recommend starting with an established distro and getting comfortable with Linux before jumping into something like this.
Ubuntu is good for the normie who wants to plug and play and not worry about Nvidia compatibility. When he gets tired of Ubuntu and realizes he wants more control, then he switches to Arch. These kinds of distros tend to disappear in a year or two. The word on /g/fglt/ and /vg/lgg/, as mostly been that CachyOS is basically the best available Arch-based distro right now - just as versatile as any of the others, but the simplest one to use and also quite more stable and better suited for gaming
Hence why I'm asking here if anyone that as used Cachy can confirm this (seems too good to be true)
