Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Giving more games that hasnt been said yet. Not all of them is gonna be popular with codexer, but here it is:

Ys 8: lacrimosa of dana (cheating a bit because it was a 2016 game but localized in 2018)

Trails through daybreak/cold steel saga

Dreams in the witch house (easily top 3 modern adventure game. Extremely non linear to the point you dont even have to chase the mystery)

Crystal project: if you're an ffv/x-2/bravely default fan this is really excellent exploration and combat focused jrpg.

Space wreck: the only 3 or so fallout inspired game that actually delivers

Stasis: bone totem and beautiful desolation

Bug fables: the everlasting sapling. Fun paper mario like rpg with great characters and world

Crosscode: puzzle arpg / zelda hybrid thing.

Darkwood: just do it

Heaven's vault: unique translation puzzle adventure

The surge 2: unique take on scifi souls like

Utawarerumono trilogy: visual novel with light turn based tactics with one of the best story in the business

Valkyria chronicles 4: fun tps/trpg hybrid with not bad animu story

Dragon quest xi

Unavowed ( i just really like the mood and story)

AI: the somnium files fun lighthearted vn/adventure game.

Control

Alan wake 2: whatever you might think about it, it's a masterpiece in atmosphere, mood and setpiece.

Opus: echo of starsong

Unsighted: unique action adventure/zelda clone with time limit where characters can die

Mundaun: moody, short but sweet survival horror game.

Monster sanctuary: pokemon but for buildfags

Baldur's gate 3: not popular codexer choice but still one of the best rpg ever made

Between horizons: great detective scifi p&C

Dread delusion: rpg lite with shallow mechanics but fun exploration story and lore

The crimson diamond: ega style parser adventure game full of charm.

Spiritfarer: light management game where you send souls to rest. Really cool concept and some of the character's story hit pretty hard for me.

Forgotten city: like outer wilds, but lighter on puzzle but still very good

Deadfire: still a great game regardless of haters

Katana zero: hotline miami but with samurai ninja thing

Sable: moody adventure coming of age exploration game. Light puzzle, cool moebius inspired graphics.

Death stranding: kojima likes the smell of his own shit, but tbh still one of a kind and polished game.

Dragon's dogma 2: also controversial but i spent 200 hours on this game.

Hardspace shipbreaker: it's weirdly relaxing for me. Perfect for short session.

Blood west: wild west open world shooter. Does overstayed its welcome but still fun

Tacticool Renaissance
Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children (2020) - Squad-based tactics game with incredibly-complex character customization/progression and excellent battlemap/encounter design, in the superhero subgenre, by a new developer now working on a sequel
So which of these is the best? Note: has to have ironman mode or some form of save restriction to be considered.
Troubleshooter is the best game of this entire period, in any genre, with its combination of tactical combat mechanics and intricate character customization. It also does not permit saving during missions, which can be quite lengthy.

I guess it's time to bite the bullet and play another game with disgusting anime art for characters (I like anime art...high detail tasteful anime art that is mostly found in the 80s). If it's that good then I cannot rightly call myself a gamer if I choose to avoid for that reason alone. Thanks bro. 10 bucks in steam sale. Here's hoping it's better than a heavily modded XCOM2.

Outward (2019) - An attempt to add survival aspects to the Open World RPG subgenre, by a promising new developer, now working on a sequel

This game is pretty damn hardcore in the way it handles traversal. No fast travel of any kind other than occasionally running into a random horse coach that could take you to a specific town for a price. Also, you can never see where you're personally on the map (no marker indicators), so you constantly have to compare your map to what you see around you. That was very cool, but could get pretty grueling at times.
