Oblivion's real world soil erosion technology has changed the cRPG landscape forever.
Indeed, horse armor DLC was far more influential though in my opinion. Truly a landmark game in the genre.

They're not wrong, Oblivion was incredibly significant for bringing that style of game to massive mainstream console success. It's just that it still sucked, and mainstreaming the genre sucks.
Indeed. You cannot really overstate the significance of Oblivion in kicking off The Decline in earnest.

Every single gaming media site is whoring themselves out to fund their local San Francisco buddies' Kickstarter of Amplitude, which is working, as it's about to scrape by on the final day. It irritates me.

Here's Codex fan favorite Ben Kuchera doing it: http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/22/5741472/harmonix-amplitude-kickstarter-frequency

Prior to Oblivion, the Elder Scrolls series had been something of a secret handshake among RPG players.

Morrowind sold like 4 million copies though. It was a mega hit. Morrowind and KotOR popularised western RPGs on consoles. Until that time, it was a market dominated by JRPGs. Oh well, Morrowind ain't on the 360 and game lists are 99% clickbait anyway.

"Top ten stealth games" obviously from a console kid. No big deal, whatever, happens all the time I guess. Top three were Batman AC, Splinter Cell Conviction (heh) and Hitman Absolution (heh heh) if you care. The funny part is the comments though. Glorious idiocy from all sides. One lovely sample:

New fact: Gaming """"""journalism"""""" is actually as dangerous as being kidnapped in some shithole like Yemen.

His article hits me a little closer to home than it should. I've been thinking about writing of my gaming years in a similar manner, recounting times and titles and what people were a part of my life at that point... just not quite as personal as he makes it sometimes.

The problem with that is I don't think anyone would read it... at least not without some waste of genetic material sending me deaththreats because I played his favourite game wrongly or something.
