Bah, none of those games were open ended Morrowind was dead linear, Arcanum was basically the same as Fallout in story structure. Even Fallout had basically what amounted to a binary ending; either you beat the mutants, or the mutants win. The slideshow didn't really count, as the towns didn't effect much beyond their own success or failure.

Only Geneforge was truly open ended. More games should emulate Geneforge in main story structure. You could join the bad guy, you could join the other bad guy, you could kill them both, you could use the Geneforge, you could decide not to use the Geneforge, and any of these combinations aside from those that are mutually exclusive, would have a different end result, and on top of that, your earlier actions in the three servile towns could have interesting effects on the ending.

Relatively small Hubs with little to do in them beyond killing innocent civilians.

That's why they're searching professionals, not hobbyists...

For a position like this I am dead sure that a talented hobbyist would do much better than the ones we previously seen doing it. Obviously, the little example quest they want is where whoever searching the position could prove himself. Here is hoping they can see the difference between a good and a bad quest :D
