I have fond memories of them being in denial about Feargus leaving BIS for nearly a month after he quit.

I am tired. Tired of explaining what TBH was. Tired of explaining about IPLY's new policies. Tired of explaining what went wrong with IWD2 and why it would be insane to release TBH as IWD3. Tired of explaining WotC/Hasbro/Atari fuckups.

Fuck'em. Let them have false hope.

I can't imagine why you'd have bothered trying to explain anything to that braindead crowd for so long. They fanatically believe whatever they want to believe, which makes it that much funnier when it's revealed that they were wrong all along.

BG3. That's enough.

Tired of explaining about IPLY's new policies.

I can sum up their new policies in three words. So, in the future, when you're asked, just reply:

  • Banckrupcy or Bust

Tired of explaining what went wrong with IWD2

I think it's obvious. The Infinity Engine was well, well passed it's prime and releasing it so close to Neverwinter Nights was just plain foolish. If IWD2 had come out a few months before NWN, maybe it would have done okay. Well, that and they totally fucked up the European release of the game.

and why it would be insane to release TBH as IWD3.

Why would they want to? IWD2 tanked, BG2 sold great. That should be enough of an explanation right there.

Tired of explaining WotC/Hasbro/Atari fuckups.

I don't think anyone can explain the road Atari is on right now other than saying they're hoping D&D ONLINE makes lotsa lotsa bucks. After all, in terms of the D&D CRPG line, it's dead. They're putting all their eggs in the D&D MMORPG basket.

Fuck'em. Let them have false hope.

I say we build up their expectations, then when they get crushed... All the sweeter.

I'll second that one. Besides, when people are too fucking ignorant to see the obvious or except the fact that they are wrong WHEN they are wrong, they deserve to have their hopes crushed.

Nah. People are blinded. Just look at all the Cainites that *still* think that TOEE is an awesome role-playing game.

I don't think TOEE is an awesome ROLE-PLAYING game. But I do think it's an awesome turn-based combat game. Throw combat like that into the mix with an Arcanum style role-play engine, add some better character development, and.... well..... wow. :D

I agree -when Mr Cain and friends can produce a game like that (preferably one that is not released buggy), then...WOW.

Until that point though, I agree with Volourn, in that there are still a *few* Cainites around who refuse to acknowledge that their Lord God Tim's Troika efforts have so far failed to meet expectations (depsite both being exceptional in some aspects).

Don't diss Arcanum. Not even the combat. Shoo away little trolls.

Otaku, I wouldn't even go that far due to various reasons already covered. I'd call itan awesome D&D rules implementation with good combat.

That is all.

Arcanum is a great game, but the combat needs serious help. I call it the X-Com Apocalypse Syndrome. Try to mix RT and TB in one package and both are gonna suffer. The RT combat in Arcanum gets too hectic too fast and the TB combat is rather bland.

Nah. For that to be true; the combat would need to be more challenging and I'd actually have to care about the occurances that occur.

You are simply wrong.

I don't accept that without legitimate proof. Arcanum combat is bland compared to the likes of TOEE. Prove to me otherwise and I will admit I am wrong. Until then, I say I am simply right. :D

Fair enough. :P Nah, Toee's combat is betetr than Arcanum; but that doesn't mean Arcanum's combat sucks which is my point here. TOEE has one of the best combat systems ever so just because soemthing isn't as good as it doesn't mena it neccessaryily sucks.

It lacked substance though. There was no real strategy involved other than that of "Oh shit!! I need to stay away from THAT one!". That's the problem with combining RT and TB combat styles. You lose out on substance for either one. I prefer TB, but RT can be hella fun if done right. Look at Diablo 2 and Sacred. There could have been alot more strategy to Arcanum combat if they had stuck with one style or the other, preferably TB, of course. :P The combat engine for the game just felt too rushed. I really wish they would have implemented a way in the editor to effect combat somehow. Maybe improve on it. I love the game dearly, but it lacks in the combat departement overall.

I don't know why you say it's so easy. I'm playing through again with a pretty well-balance party (Bard, Ranger, Monk, Wizard, Cleric, + Elmo), and I get my ass handed back to me plenty and I've been playing D&D for over 5 years. There's more than enough challenge, and if you want more, there's always "ironman" mode.

Now if you want to talk about some yawn-inducing easy combat, [insert any BioWare game]...

Otaku: Of course it lacks strategy. It has tatics though. That's one of the few lessons I've learned from our good buddy, Tri.

X: I say it's easy; because that's what it was. I think there are maybe 5 battles max that were really challenging; maybe another 5 or so that needed me to rethink how I was gonna approach it; and the other battles were simply jokes. And, I didn't use any npcs at all. As for ironman; I 'd go for it if I wasn't worried about the game crashing all the time; as it would be a worthy battle.

As for BIo's games being easy; if you say so.

Actually, not having henchlings makes ToEE easier. fewer characters means you level faster, and the way D&D is designed, a higher level character is much more effective than multiple lower level characters...
You can easily get 4 characters to level 10 (without resting to attract extra battles, no less) by the 2nd or third level of the temple. At that point you can throw extras into your party (who'll level up fast, given the XP rewards given out at that point), with no harm to your already maxed core group.

I've beaten the game about 4-5 times, and it is much easier with a 4 person party than an 8 person one, just because of the level difference. (and the extra XP you can throw into magic item creation)

Ah, well, with the IE games, some of the spellcaster battles could be iffy (particularly if the casters were randomly set to be uninterupptable).
And there were a few Battles of Utter Ridiculousness...

The low number of casters in the Temple does make it easier, in comparison.
hmm.

Voss, that's a good point. And, it's true in some situations. However, not in many. For example, if you want a good sneak attacking theif; you'd want more as it's a little more challenging to get your thief flanking when you only got 4 or 5 charafcetrs total. though; I avodied that since I didn't have a theif in my party anyways.

X. If you say so; but even if that's true it';s better than hack, hack, hack, fight over, loot, next.

Feh. All you really need for flanking is one other person, and a good score in tumble.
And if you're really a sneak attack focused thief, you should have improved feint- then you don't need to flank.

If you're really desperate for extra bodies, have a wiz/sorc/cleric/druid summon something.

I was thinking it would be more challenging if one of the minions scampered off and fetched the nearby mid to high level cleric. Rather than playing butcher the minions and dogpile on the priest, the priest could come in and buff/heal the minions and call upon their dark gods to smite you. That would make a big difference in some of those fights.

Spell caster battles in the IE games? Let me correct myself then:

Hack, hack, equip phat loot with high spell resistances, hack, hack, hack, drink potion of heal, hack, hack, hack, hack, hack, loot.
