Polygamia.pl has interviewed BioWare's Heather Rabatich. Here's an excerpt:

We are trying to make the game more accessible to people. Like in your first question, because it's a first person shooter, it is a more attractive game, as the word "RPG? can scare people off from playing a game because they think it's going to be boring. But I think Mass Effect bridges that, because it's exciting and emotionally involving. It's fun, any gamer would love this game. Your Halo gamer would love this game, because again, it's a more sophisticated gaming audience now.

The future of RPGs with such a sophisticated audience sure sounds exciting!

I think he's confusing the words "Sophisticated" and "Impressionable". Or perhaps "Frat Boy"

Oh, so they are. Quickly, amend my previous statement to use gender-neutral pronouns!

Semantics, Ausir, semantics.

Still confusing 'sophisiticated' with something.

Making games "accessible to people".

The decline is complete.

Oh look everyone, a video games producer suggests that RPGs should be dumbed down to appeal to the general crowd, that is so unfair, let us not play RPGs made by these people anymore.

been not playing their games for like six years now. so ahead of the curve

if "RPG" scares people away, why are you writing "rpg" on the box? why not go all the way balls-to-the-wall and make halo clones. those are even more likely to appeal to Your Halo Gamer

No, really, it's fun and all, but I kind of have high hopes for ME 2.
Silly me, I know

For some reason its opposite to me. I usually quickly get bored by first person games, but word "RPG" attracts my attention. I wonder could the reason be huge amount off similar FPS?

The reason being that you're probably not a presumptuous self-important turd, who thinks he has a right to underestimate people's intelligence by telling them what is complicated or boring for them and what isn't?

They're trying to market RPGs to people who don't like RPGs. Hurrdurr.

There's a concerted effort on the part of these fucks to turn RPGs into first-person shooters. Death is too good for them.
