I'm sure Hitler saw some things too that made him think Jews were evil.
When a final villain gives you a speech before a fight, it's just hyping you up for it.
It's not supposed to mean anything.

Great, this is exactly what was missing from this topic. Someone who thinks all games can be judged by the same rules and that it's impossible for developers to actually want to say something through their creation.
Get that head out of your ass, seriously.

Don't you mean Guilt by Association? You should really name the entire fallacy instead of just sub-groups, you know.Btw, that's Argumentum ad Nazium or Reductio ad Hitlerum
So that's what they call it these days...and I already took that apart when Volourn babbled about it above.
Ah of course, you're one of those "subjective morality" types. That makes a whole lot of sense actually. In our world (here, on Earth, also known as real-life) there is no universal concept of good and evil
Nope, has nothing to do with God. I know it's hard to grasp for someone with a worthless brain like yours, but there is such a thing as morality without religion.unless of course you're one of those who thinks there's someone up in the sky cooking up rules,
Allright, you want a real world example? Apparently you need one. HUMAN life on EARTH is a disturbance of the natural world. It is. We have risen above nature, and instead of being just a part of it we now dominate it. So by your reasoning an environmentalist who would want to wipe out all human life to restore "order" wouldn't be insane,In Arcanum's world (aka not-real-life) the fact that life is a disturbance of the order is completely plausible, just like magic, gods and so on.
in which case please go eat a bullet
So madness is now measured by lack of calmness? Don't be an idiot. Serial killers feel calm every time they commit the act.Cloaked Figure said:Have you ever even played Arcanum? By the sound of it, no. Kerghan wasn't mad, in fact he was quite calm and sure of himself.

FeelTheRads is to retarded to understand that taking away somebodies life if the one in question doesnt want it is lame no matter what.
Which is why you posted it on the board.FeelTheRads said:Appeal to Ridicule
No. Simply a note to self.
Reason.Ah of course, you're one of those "subjective morality" types.

I'm curious who exactly laid out these universal principles.
That's just awesome. We dominate nature? Seriously? Only a creationist could have such delusions of superiority. Not only we don't dominate nature, we don't even dominate Earth.
The universe doesn't really care about a species draining out the resources of a tiny planet.
We don't affect ANYTHING.
Earth is only a part of nature.
Earth and therefore us could be destroyed by a simple cosmic cataclysm.
Good job you both did of giving examples of what we haven't dominated yet while ignoring everything that we have. And I don't even need to give examples for that. Just look all around you.Darth Roxor said:
Quoted for posterity. To be able to dominate nature we'd have to be immortal AND indestructible.
Same basic principle - the natural way is "good" and humans are "bad" when they try to fuck with it.And going back to Arcanum, where Order is a universal concept which life disturbs, I assume you can see the difference between that and affecting an infinitely small part of the universe?
Volourn said:Why, pray tell, should the robots explain their reasons to their enemy? They obviously don't give a shit what the organics think. Besdies, it's rather retarded for the enemy to babble on to their target. Dumbass.
Please riddle me this: If Kerghan isn't insane, then what does that make all the other (thousands?) inhabitants of the world?FeelTheRads said:Oh, yes, he would be insane. It would be insane to destroy all humanity just because the effect they have on Earth. And going back to Arcanum, where Order is a universal concept which life disturbs, I assume you can see the difference between that and affecting an infinitely small part of the universe?
According to Kerghan, yes. Or according to the basic philosophy that Kerghan was using. In other words, according to a false philosophy. So what point are you trying to prove again?Cloaked Figure said:Huh? That makes the mages of Arcanum evil for messing with the worlds balance.
You can't have complete disconnect from our world for a story to work, even in fantasy.Again, see how trying to apply OUR morals to a fantasy world makes no sense?
You're confused. Your computer is a perfect example. It would never have occured naturally. In order to get it, people had to take various natural things and force them into a configuration to get what they want. Every piece of technology there is involves forcing bits of nature into new things to suit our needs and wants. That's dominating nature. And we can't dominate nature because everything we use is natural - this computer I'm taking on is made of produced oil and metal, mined from the Earth. If anything, we're more in tune with nature than any animal on this planet.
