God dammit people.

When a final villain gives you a speech before a fight, it's just hyping you up for it.

It's not supposed to mean anything.

It's like wrestlers talking on mics.

Look at the context, for heaven's sake.

I'm sure Hitler saw some things too that made him think Jews were evil.

Also, since you obviously have severe mental limitations, let me explain.
- In our world (here, on Earth, also known as real-life) there is no universal concept of good and evil (unless of course you're one of those who thinks there's someone up in the sky cooking up rules, in which case please go eat a bullet) so Hitler's motivation that a whole race of people is inherently evil (if that was really his motivation) can be easily dismissed as insane.
- In Arcanum's world (aka not-real-life) the fact that life is a disturbance of the order is completely plausible, just like magic, gods and so on.

Clearer now? Or are you still gonna come back with "But it's lame no matter what lol"?

Great, this is exactly what was missing from this topic. Someone who thinks all games can be judged by the same rules and that it's impossible for developers to actually want to say something through their creation.

Get that head out of your ass, seriously.

Dude lighten up.

All I am saying, don't look for meaning in things that are not supposed to mean anything. A videogame villain final speech is generally no different from a Warhammer 40,000 epithet. It's a little fluff written for entertainment, and to analyse it in any way is an empty endeavour that produces empty results.

When Ming Xiao calls you a disappointment before you fight her, it's just a little prefight trash talk before you can the bitch. There's no point in analysing the "This life, this afterthought, not even a calling, but an echo..." speech - it's just a little nihilism coming from a virtual character whose sole gaming purpose is to try to kill you.

Appeal to Ridicule

Btw, that's Argumentum ad Nazium or Reductio ad Hitlerum
Don't you mean Guilt by Association? You should really name the entire fallacy instead of just sub-groups, you know.

and I already took that apart when Volourn babbled about it above.
So that's what they call it these days...

In our world (here, on Earth, also known as real-life) there is no universal concept of good and evil
Ah of course, you're one of those "subjective morality" types. That makes a whole lot of sense actually.

unless of course you're one of those who thinks there's someone up in the sky cooking up rules,
Nope, has nothing to do with God. I know it's hard to grasp for someone with a worthless brain like yours, but there is such a thing as morality without religion.

In Arcanum's world (aka not-real-life) the fact that life is a disturbance of the order is completely plausible, just like magic, gods and so on.
Allright, you want a real world example? Apparently you need one. HUMAN life on EARTH is a disturbance of the natural world. It is. We have risen above nature, and instead of being just a part of it we now dominate it. So by your reasoning an environmentalist who would want to wipe out all human life to restore "order" wouldn't be insane,
in which case please go eat a bullet

Have you ever even played Arcanum? By the sound of it, no. Kerghan wasn't mad, in fact he was quite calm and sure of himself.
So madness is now measured by lack of calmness? Don't be an idiot. Serial killers feel calm every time they commit the act.

No. Simply a note to self.

Don't you mean Guilt by Association?

No, since you specifically used a "sub-group".

Also, you don't appear any smarter for enumerating all types of logical fallacies you know.

Ah of course, you're one of those "subjective morality" types.

but there is such a thing as morality without religion.

I'm curious who exactly laid out these universal principles.

HUMAN life on EARTH is a disturbance of the natural world. It is. We have risen above nature, and instead of being just a part of it we now dominate it.

That's just awesome. We dominate nature? Seriously? Only a creationist could have such delusions of superiority. Not only we don't dominate nature, we don't even dominate Earth.
The universe doesn't really care about a species draining out the resources of a tiny planet.
We don't affect ANYTHING.
Earth is only a part of nature.
Earth and therefore us could be destroyed by a simple cosmic cataclysm.

To be able to dominate nature we'd have to be immortal AND indestructible.

So by your reasoning an environmentalist who would want to wipe out all human life to restore "order" wouldn't be insane,

Oh, yes, he would be insane. It would be insane to destroy all humanity just because the effect they have on Earth. And going back to Arcanum, where Order is a universal concept which life disturbs, I assume you can see the difference between that and affecting an infinitely small part of the universe?

Ergo all villains and enemies in any game are lame because hey.. your character doesn't want to die, no?
Also, I thought it was called murder not lameness.

Please, next time try to think.

Reason.

Good job you both did of giving examples of what we haven't dominated yet while ignoring everything that we have. And I don't even need to give examples for that. Just look all around you.

Quoted for posterity.

Same basic principle - the natural way is "good" and humans are "bad" when they try to fuck with it.

Why, pray tell, should the robots explain their reasons to their enemy? They obviously don't give a shit what the organics think. Besdies, it's rather retarded for the enemy to babble on to their target. Dumbass.

Oh that's why they won't just shut up?
Sure why would they explain their reasons - we are coming to your galaxy once in 50 thousands years, kill everything, fly away - then coming back again.
Drew Karpyshyn probably thought it adds to the MYSTARY

Please riddle me this: If Kerghan isn't insane, then what does that make all the other (thousands?) inhabitants of the world?
Since they differ so much in their world philosophy, one must be sane and the other insane right? It's not as if it's a minor difference like one of them votes Dem and the other Republican!

So let's take a closer look at the world/lore of Arcanum to decide. In the world of Arcanum:
Magic is incompatible with technology: FACT!
Life is a disturbance for the order: Ehhh not so much (only Kerghan thinks so, because wait for it... he is delusional)

If you want to use semantic mumbo-jumbo to prove that he's rational because IT'S ALL SUBJECTIVE LOL!!!!11 feel free to do so. But this won't change THE FACT that while Arcanum is the
best CnC RPG in recent years, its bad guy is LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME

Its the same concept as in Fallout - somebody decides for you something because he thinks its betta fo u.

Now this particular approach to the antagonist has been done before in human history, like so many other things. That alone doesnt make it lame. What makes it lame is that it has been done the same way in a game, a rpg, dev. by the same people who did it the first time. Ergo lame.

Huh? That makes the mages of Arcanum evil for messing with the worlds balance.
According to Kerghan, yes. Or according to the basic philosophy that Kerghan was using. In other words, according to a false philosophy. So what point are you trying to prove again?

Again, see how trying to apply OUR morals to a fantasy world makes no sense?
You can't have complete disconnect from our world for a story to work, even in fantasy.

And we can't dominate nature because everything we use is natural - this computer I'm taking on is made of produced oil and metal, mined from the Earth. If anything, we're more in tune with nature than any animal on this planet.
You're confused. Your computer is a perfect example. It would never have occured naturally. In order to get it, people had to take various natural things and force them into a configuration to get what they want. Every piece of technology there is involves forcing bits of nature into new things to suit our needs and wants. That's dominating nature.
