Already killed him after I saw him eating a little girl. :smug:

I sent him to Yosefka on my botched playthrough (only to later discover that she turns people into aliens) and on the redone playthrough decided to just attack him and see what happens.

To my enormous surprise, he didn't merely become hostile, but actually transformed into a large electro-beast that almost killed me.

Blades of Mercy made Ebrietas a very easy kill, and I got another chalice from it. Wonderful.

Returning to the Hunters Nightmare, I found that it eventually gets pretty interesting to explore. The "research hall" level was nicely designed, although I could do with fewer bobble-heads spouting utter gibberish.

Lady Maria (who the fuck was that?) got parried pretty heavily, and now, finally, it looks like FromSoftware is doing the "deformed fishing village mutants" part of the Lovecraftian lore.

Lady Maria (who the fuck was that?)

Look at the doll. Then look at Maria. Then look at the doll again. Use the monocular if needed.
Wait, what?

Oh, is that why the doll said that she felt someone being released from heavy shackles after I killed Maria? I thought she was referring to Laurence and/or Ludwig's head whom I killed right before fighting Maria. And the guy bashing his head on the wall in that cell. And all of the bobble-head NPCs. Basically, I went on a mercy-kill spree.

Yeah. The doll was modeled after Maria who was Gerhman's student. You can check the description of her set at the insight shop. Also, you'll find her weapon
somewhere in the fishing village

Oh, and I just realized that the bobble-heads were probably an intermediate stage of turning people into aliens...

Hm, so what was up with the guy locked up in the deepest cell of the Hunters Nightmare? The game handed me a key to his cell when I made it to the second lamp of the Fishing Village, I went to open his door, a clone of him was summoned to attack me (easy fight), then I finally opened his door and he just sat there trying to guilt trip me into not killing him? Obviously I killed him on the spot. Did I miss anything by doing that?

Ok, so after losing 70,000 souls bloods to the damn eye-brains in the fish caverns, I had to witness the birth of a supremely hideous fish zombie out of an eldritch whale, and luckily beat it on my second try (the blades of mercy are unstoppable). Then I stabbed a shadow of that thing, and the sun is no longer fucked up. The doll congratulated me by saying that Gehrman sleeps soundly now, which was pretty ironic considering that five minutes later he appeared in his usual spot, weeping in his sleep and begging Lawrence to come save him from the dream.

Anyway, I'm done with the Hunters Nightmare, and now all I have left is... Nightmare of Mensis?

Too many nightmares tbh.

Skinwalker , how about the shark brothers in the fishing village well? They drop the Rakuyo, a badass Dex weapon.

And if you really killed the Orphan second attempt, congratulations. You're better at this game than me, because I usually take a dozen attempts even nowadays. :salute:

Yup, got it. At this point I just want to finish the game.

I was totally ready for another fifty attempts like with Ludwig, but I guess I got lucky a number of times in the fight. At the end I ran out of health potions, and just wailed at him in desperation, and that worked.

The Pthumeru labyrinth version of Amygdala dethroned Ludwig as the boss that made me want to scream in pain the most. Took me over two hours to beat it. What the fuck is this shit?

Ok, so Rom, Amygdala, now Ebrietas - why does every eldritch horror boss have to have an even harder copy lurking in the chalice dungeons? Does it even make any logical sense? What's going to be in the final Chalice Dungeon, another One Reborn?

At least this Ebrietas wasn't much harder than the first one, but I did learn that xe can grab you and eat you alive if you're not careful.

Also, how do I get the Living String? Did I miss anything?

Oh, you can descend into the void and kill the giant frenzy brain after you've dropped it? Didn't know that, but I can now explore the final chalice dungeon.

Also, turns out the prostitute gave birth to an alien baby, at some point. What a slut.

That was one of the high points of the game, honestly. Establishing that mystical cosmic connection, before dealing out mayhem of course.

Funny how the eye follows you around.

Ok, so at the end of the final chalice dungeon, I beat up a pregnant lady (Queen Yharnam? Is the city named after her? Also, who the hell is she? And why was there a copy of her in the Nightmare of Mensis?), then returned to the Nightmare to beat up someone's "wet nurse" (Who the hell is Mergo? Is this the "god" that the insane gay scholar was trying to create/summon with the Yahar'Gul rituals?), then beat up Gehman after he went full anime on me (sounds like he was trying to free me from the dream, but I didn't play this game for so long to miss out on endgame content), then a giant alien appeared from the moon, and I had to beat up that thing too. I assume that was the force behind beasthood/lunacy? It had the moveset of a giant beast boss, at least...

Boasting aside, I first-tried all of these bosses because I was massively over-leveled after clearing all the chalice dungeons, and also they seemed fairly easy... which is a bit weird, because I actually struggled a bit with the "Pthumerian Descendant" and "Bloodletting Beast" that were the bosses of level 1 and 2 of the final dungeon... Oh well, can't complain. Better than another Ludwig or Amygdala debacle.

In the final cutscene, a purple squid is picked up and fondled by the Doll... is this what I had turned into by "winning"? Oh, the "trophy" told me that I had transformed into a "god"... thanks, trophy! I love it when crucial plot information is hidden in peripheral things. :fromsoftware:

Ok, I looked up the other endings on youtube, and the one where the hunter wakes up in the real world at the dawn of a new day was the one I would have picked if I didn't have to skip two boss fights to get it. Anyway, this was the pinnacle of souls games, even though it went on for far too long, which is entirely my own fault, and I might replay this after a few years. But for now, I'm done with FS games.

Most concrete anything about this comes from the umbilical cords description so the theory is Mergo is the child of the Queen and one of the alien gods. Since the alien gods are apparently cursed to lose their child, Mergo croaked but xir's spirit got trapped and resulted in the nightmare. Presumably, Yharnam appears in the nightmare to guide you to Mergo so you can put him/she/it out of his/her/its misery.

Congrats on the win. What a game. And yep. Even if not the best, it doesn't get better from here. They blew their wad. Sekiro is p. cool, but it's not the overall package that BB is imo. That's why it's due time for Armored Core, unless they apply Muhzaki Game formula to that.

I finished my first playthrough of this game and its DLC today. What an experience! It was a grueling experience, the entire way through I was constantly exclaiming "Oh my god the damage that thing does!" But its a masterpiece. The aesthetic, the sound design, the enemy design, the levels. Its just breathtaking. What a journey.

I'm going straight into NG+ to find all the stuff I missed doing my blind run, do the remaining story chalice dungeons and finish my build. I ended up level 80 something with 45 ish VIT and 50 STR. I mained the hunter axe with a secondary tonitrus (which I swapped for the boom hammer in the DLC). I'm going to level to 120 as I hoover NG+ tying up all the loose ends from NG.
