Metal Slug 3 is one of the greatest games of all time. It’s just all around excellent. The gameplay is fantastic, the sprite work is fantastic, and it’s so replayable. Like it’s replayable on gameplay grounds alone, even if it didn’t have all the extra paths it could be played endless, but those extra paths make it even better.

The extra modes that come with the Xbox version (a PS2 version came out in Japan) are great too...and I still don’t think any other versions of it have those extras even still.

Both 3 and X have one problem which is the pace killing memorizer 2nd stage, and basically no other faults. Even score play is decent if you enjoy milking. The second stage is a toll well worth paying as the games really are a well deserved top 10 in genre minimum, and it's really only an annoyance when you come back to the game after a hiatus.

I’m a fan of the zombie stage. The 2001 alien monolith boss fight is one of the more interesting boss fights in video games.
