Brahs, I want to Arcanum and Planescape

Start with Fallout 1, it's probably the most newbie friendly and starts off simple enough. Arcanum is rough around the edges, Planescape is perfect from the first splash screen but you may not get the writing and choices you can make. Or Baldur's Gate 1 + Tutu another easy game to start.

Actually I don't mind the graphics that much. The clunky UI though is hard to get through.

Not to mention I personally don't like any kind of isometric style. Then again I wouldn't say no to an HD port either.

My main problem though had to be combat.

And what games you played in videogames? Specifically, wich RPGs? Because the vast majority of RPGs that were successful in the SNES and Playstation generations were turn-based. Games similar to Final Fantasy's and Dragon Quest's's. Then it gets a little strange that you have grown up being exposed to games like that and still consider Arcanum/Fallout unbearable. Sure, there are certain fundamental differences, such as the fact that in Western RPGs you need to position your character in combat, something that is not necessary in many RPGs made in Japan. But even there, there are games like Tactics Ogre or Super Robot Wars that have a simplified version of the combat system of Fallout, isomentric-kinda view and a combat sistem that needs positioning in turns.

So ... What did you play, to have any reference?

I guess Pokemon and Final Fantasy. Actually I think my first RPG was Super Mario RPG.

I didn't really get into RPG's until the early 2000's. I was more action/adventure type games player. After that I've played every notable western RPG starting from KOTOR/NWN up to now.

My first PC game was Starcraft. Also I keep dying in Torment right now... I think there is something wrong with the install. All the animations seem off. Like everybody's running sideways.

Where are you and what are you doing in Torment that you keep dying? Are you trying to go toe to toe with one of the giant skeletons in the Mortuary?

No just running around areas in the hive trying to talk to everybody.

I dumped into WIS, INT, CHA. So I have starting DEX, CON, and STR.

A quick trip to the options screen would have solved this problem. I don't remember off-hand what the specific option is called but it's not that rocket science to figure out. Also, you know you can pause the game and give orders to your party on who to attack, heal, use items, special abilities etc. If you expect the AI to take care of everything for you like in KOTOR then you will die a lot in any IE game.
I encourage you to do a lp of Torment (the next-gen youtube kind, not the shitty image-based ones you see on the codex) so we can all enjoy watching you play.

Options screen says nothing about animations.

Although I agree screenshot LP's are shitty.

^ Thanks, you confirmed all of my suspicions.
Be sure to ask someone to mod an interactive tutorial for the options-menu. Preferably, with touch screen sensitivity.

Stinger: That was just bait. It worked as expected.

The only video-based LPs that are worth a damn are speed-runs and those of FMV games (especially Spoony's). Plus, most LPers sound like little punks.

Okay... So it's the Hive thugs that are your problem? You don't have to/aren't supposed to fight them all. Give them a wide berth.

Use healing items--you should be up to your ears if you explored the Mortuary.

Get more party members. I suggest you go check out the Smoldering Corpse Bar and chat with people there.

Oh, and if people in the game tell you that an area is dangerous, it's a fair bet that you want to hold off going there until you have a bigger party and more XP--though I'm not certain which areas you're dying in.

Torment is "un-LPable"

the widescreen mod (that i never used because of that) only recently has had a crash fixed (and the exe wasn't updated yet). This is in addition to the other "crash" that only reliably occurred in wine (but could be the cause of random problems in windows) that was fixed recently or the one that can happen in the Gog 2 cd version (shit) when uncompressing files.

ITT: We learn that paintings look like shit compared to even the crudest sculptures, since they're 2d. They also are shitty compared to films, since they don't move or have talking.

That fixes it but makes it lag in some buildings.

Anyway I think I'm way underleveled. I just left the catacombs because the people there were taking forever to kill. (I'm level 5.)

Is there a portal or something in the trash city to quickly get back to the Hive area?

Also I can only get Dakkon right now, right? I talked to the other people who were under PC and nothing happened. What is the penalty for dying? Do I lose xp?

Get D3DWindower, that helped a lot in solving a lot of problems I was having with Torment.

Yes to the first question and no, but the last area will have more shadows. It's going to be annoying regardless.

Ohh ... that's why the last area was almost empty in my case. I think I died only one time and that was in order to solve a quest. Is it possible?

I know. I am a heretic who should burn. :rpgcodex:

You're mostly someone who should find another forum to post on

Come at me bro. I doesn't afraid of anything.

Look man, if you're really interested in those games, how about you give it a little good will, try them out, or read some other threads, or go to rpg watch. This shit is a bit too much for you I think, I don't know why someone would go to such an obvious hardcore obsessed community about a hobby when they barely are familiar with said hobby. It'd be like I don't know posting on a hockey forum when you barely don't know anything about it, asking others to tell you who are the best teams. I don't know man, something like that.

Also, if you respond to my posts with another shitty meme, I really don't know how much I'm going to handle such a sharp show of wit, maybe by ripping your tongue off or something
