It will release in a few days as of this writing.

I played the demo and the vampires follow the Dracula rules to a tee: buried in graves, no reflection, hypnosis, turn into bats, etc. You can turn into a bat and fly around 2D platformer levels.

There’s a karma meter that works similar to Mass Effect, where you can independently gain points in a humanity meter and a nihilism meter.

There’s a reputation mechanic in which you have separate reputations with different characters.

The writing is really dark. It doesn’t shy away from introducing nice characters with bright futures and then cruelly murdering them and putting their corpses on display in gruesome tableaus.

The setting is a slavic steampunk setting set in an alternate Earthlike world. Lots of namedropping of slavic fairies like domovoi and rusalka.

Character progression occurs entirely as the result of dialogue decisions, not unlike Planescape: Torment. There doesn’t seem to be a combat mechanic.

Curious how this will play out.

The art style is pretty ugly, but I remember finding the writing in the demo to be surprisingly decent. Hopefully this will end up being worthwhile.

OP's game looks interesting.

But talking about Miside, Doki Doki made me never want to try one of these "cute anime girl but dark shit meme games" ever again.

Everyone badgered me to try Doki Doki because it was the best thing ever and I didn't get it. It was just hours of standard VN dialogue.

I don't think these types of games are for me.

What else is going to scratch RaggleFraggle's vampire game itch, Vampire Survivors?
Eh… I’m scraping the barrel because there’s not many options. Vampire Syndicate, Nightborn and Harrowed World are still in development.

Imagine how I feel about shifters, magicians, ghosts, fey, demons and other urban fantasy character archetypes that are not vampires.

Hope it comes out on torrents, niche stuff like this rarely does. If it doesn't, can someone zip up their game directory and send it to me?

Beggars can’t be choosers. >99% of crpgs are interchangeable D&D fantasy and almost nobody wants to make other genres. If you want an rpg about playing halloween monsters on Earth, then you have to make it yourself. I don’t know how much clearer I can make this.

It's just russian for siren. Why use the word from another language, as if in russian it means something more. It doesn't, it's fake "depth".
You want something "russian" - alright, there's an Ihtiandr, a male siren, based on a sci-fi novel written by Belyaev in 1927. Go with that, build something creepy. A fish-dude who's so lonely, he drags women into the water for company. No, they want an "ethnic siren".
Disappointed already. Still playing... so few vampire games out there.

There’s stark differences between Greek sirens and Russian rusalkas. Namely, the rusalka in the game is a riverbound ghost(?) who wants revenge on her murderer. Greek sirens are different: https://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Seirenes.html

Sorry, I meant mermaid, not siren. In French a mermaid is sirène, which often makes me mistake them.
Regardless, mermaid in slavic mythology doesn't have a fish tail, this is a western little mermaid with an ethnic name.
Eh.

This game called my attention when I was doing my weekly review of the IGN's page. The concept is cool, but I don't understand why the art looks so clean when you're going for something in the 19th century. Maybe that's just personal taste.

That's because they're streamerbait. Type "MiSide stream" on youtube and you will see that every single streamer on the face of the Earth has played that game, from the most popular to the literally who with only 3 subscribers. All of them play out the same way with the "dark twist" at the end or in the middle, and giving some sort of pretentious message, usually against escapism or depression. They're tailor-made to be the flavour of the month.

Ok. Imperfections aside, I think this is a huge innovation compared to Bloodlines. You have a magical creature that isn’t a vampire, but rather than being a boss fight/puzzle, it’s a quest giver!

…and it only took 20 years for the genre to innovate this far. In another 20 years, we might be able to play a werewolf or a ghost or something.
