Do they now call it "mini-expansion" because the last small DLCs didn't sell?

Edit: Also, I don't see them give good discounts on these mini-DLC's, either. I haven't bought any of those so far, and I am someone who generally likes the game.

Now a full expansion:

Cities: Skylines - Green Cities is a new expansion for the city-builder from Colossal Order, adding new ways for players to build earth-friendly towns. The expansion adds 350 new assets to the core game, adding a massive selection of new visual options, complete with eco-friendly buildings, organic shops, electric vehicles, and new services designed to make pollution a quaint notion of the past. Players can create more diversified cities, or go completely green as the urban population grows. New in-game services and buildings arrive alongside revisions to noise and environmental pollution, making the skies safer for Chirper at last.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, with exciting new features such as:

Story to Story, Building to Building, Street to Street:
New Eco-Friendly Buildings, New specialization buildings, new alternative service buildings, new unique buildings, electric cars, new parks -- 350 new assets in all giving a unique new look to Cities: Skylines

I Wish I Was Special, You’re So Very Special:
New specialized options for all city zones, plus leveled-up specializations for the first time in Cities: Skylines

So What So What So What’s the Scenario:
3 new scenarios, 4 new policy options, and a new Monument to make your friends Green with envy

Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear More Stylish:
Of course we’ve included a new hat for Chirper

I guess there are actually enough people on the Paradox forums who whine for more vanilla buildings etc., but that doesn't sound interesting at all to me. Let's see what must-have feature they hide in the expansion this time to get people with no interest in the main part of the expansion to buy.

I hate eco-friendly cities. In the current game, windmills are already like cheating. I love when there's huge traffic (preferably with Diesel cars) and huge factories spewing smoke into the sky. That's progress.

Even the "dirty" aspects of the original were underdone or presented rather childishly. Default pollution was shown by purple grass.

Yup. I think numerous mods that changed that color were some of the first on the workshop.

Also, that video has an encoding error someway in. Looks like typical Paradox competency.

Release date is October 19th. They made a cheesy song for the trailer

In other news, their "Cities: Skylines - Stadiums: European Club Pack" will be taken off the stores tomorrow (9/28), as the related licenses run out. If anyone still wants this, it's on sale in the Paradox Store for 33% off (about €4).

Making slums in Simcity4 wasn't really easy, either. Like in many games, the easy way was to throw the goodies at your populace until they pay enough taxes that you can disregard the economic side of the game. In Cities: Skylines, you can at least easily cheat the game with building themes. The point that those areas then only look like slums isn't that important when the economic simulation is garbage anyway.

At least they keep their humor, whether it's subtle or not so subtle. This here is obviously what comes to their minds when they make a title called "Green Cities":

Now I don't even have to care where the grey sludge goes and can just mindlessly expand my city.

Which dlc to get ?
Depends on how much money is worth to you really. After Dark is important, since it adds day-night cycles and the new districts are fun. Maybe Mass Transit for the new options it gives, but it's not crucial. Winter whatever and Natural Disasters actually make the game more annoying if you use the gameplay features they add, and don't come with a lot of buildings that matter if you aren't using those features. I haven't played Green Cities but everything about it reminds me of people I hate.

FitGirl recently updated her repack (which is like 256 kb) with the last DLC, and mods work with her repacks, I started installing some before last update but obviously now a bunch won't work until the modders update them :argh:

since it adds day-night cycles

Day night cycle was added for free to base game with this DLCpatch in vein of all Paradox game DLCs
It is indeed the case that trying the base game is pretty much a rounded experience, because all important new stuff for the game has always been delivered in free updates. I know this for sure as I have a second game installation that only uses the base game, without any DLC except the two free ones.

You are missing out on some specialized districts (leisure, tourism, IT, organic produce, self-sufficient housing), bike paths, a few public transport methods, specialized winter maps, disasters and disaster response, etc. Choose DLCs according to what you really want to have.

Some stuff like bus lanes can be had from mods (Network Extensions 2). I use about 100 mods regularly, so it's hard to give specific recommendations.
