Commandos IP Rights Secured By Kalypso Media Group; New Entry In The Series To Come In The Future

The Commandos IP rights have been secured by Kalypso Media Group, the German video game developer and publisher confirmed today.

With the latest acquisition, the Commandos brand is now owned by the European publisher, with the rights covering both the distribution rights for older titles as well as future releases in the franchise.

We are very proud and extremely honored to be able to add such large and successful brands as Commandos, Praetorians, and Imperial Glory to the Kalypso Media portfolio” commented Simon Hellwig, founder and Global Managing Director of the Kalypso Media Group, “The opportunities that arise from this acquisition will help create the best possible conditions for the further growth of the Kalypso Media Group.”

Ignacio Pérez, founder of Pyro Studios. also commented on the acquisition.

“We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience with rebooting well-known titles, and we are delighted to have our IP in such good hands.

Simon Hellwig also confirmed the development of a brand new title in the franchise, and will soon begin talking about potential development studios in the future. We will keep you updated about the return of the Commandos franchise as soon as possible, so stay tuned for all the latest news.

I'll take a HD remaster of the Original games over a Commandos 4, because I know they'd just fuck it up.

A new game is in the plan (the development studio has not decided) and possibly remasters are coming:

COMMANDOS RETURNS! KALYPSO SECURES ALL ICONIC PYRO STUDIOS FRANCHISES

The Kalypso Media Group is thrilled to announce that it has secured all rights to the highly-acclaimed fan-favourite gaming IP, Commandos. With this latest acquisition, the entire Commandos brand is completely owned by Kalypso Media, which not only covers future releases but also all distribution rights to the entire series thus far, including Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, Commandos 2: Men of Courage, Commandos 3: Destination Berlin and Commandos: Strike Force, as well as Pyro Studios’ other titles, such as Imperial Glory and Praetorians.

“We are very proud and extremely honored to be able to add such large and successful brands as Commandos, Praetorians and Imperial Glory to the Kalypso Media portfolio” commented Simon Hellwig, founder and Global Managing Director of the Kalypso Media Group, “The opportunities that arise from this acquisition will help create the best possible conditions for the further growth of the Kalypso Media Group.”

Ignacio Pérez, founder of Pyro Studios, adds: “We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience with rebooting well-known titles, and we are delighted to have our IP in such good hands.”

Simon Hellwig continues, “We have great respect for what the Pyro Studios team have accomplished and created throughout the history of the studio. Therefore, we see it as our responsibility to want to revive and further develop these beloved games for the fans around the world. Of course, this will include the development of a completely new games for all platforms, but also an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms. We’re incredibly excited about the opportunities, and will begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future.”

Since its initial launch in 1998 the Commandos IP is one of the most popular and well-known real-time tactics series in gaming history, focusing on careful and strategic action with finely-tuned stealth gameplay. The series revolutionized the genre with its groundbreaking game mechanics, and its influence can still be felt in strategy games today.

Sub mediocre publisher takes classic hardcore pc games and the first thing they announce is how they're gonna make everything multiplatform.

It can work. Shadow Tactics was also released for consoles. Problem is in these cases publishers just grab an axe and start simplifying shit too much if multiplat is their goal.

Interesting, as far as I know Pyro Studios hasn't done anything in a fucking while, they merged with another company and wanted/tried to enter the mobile games market? They pretty much disappeared from the face of the planet, I don't know if they'll be able to make any worthy games after all this time, we'll see.

Pyro has already been dead in the water for over a decade.

Commandos 2 was already released on consoles. I think #3 might have also been released on those platforms in downloadable form.

PC is obviously the best way to play but making these kind of games work on consoles is possible (eg Shadow Tactics).

This is so weird. German publisher is interested in the game that is full of swastikas and Nazi's. I thought they have federal laws forbidding such themes. That's unheard of...

Kalypso is really not that bad. Of course they published some stinkers (thinking of Demonicon), but their strategy-titles are good games and I think this could turn out good too. I don't know why, but Germans love strategy games, so I guess they will be very careful with this. Myself, I find WW2 too depressing, but hey, if this helps to resurrect the genre even more, I am happy.

Worst case scenario will be, that it turns into another Jagged Alliance (of whom no other games beside Part 2 exist).
