i hereby do merely wish to report that GODDAMN devil whiskey is a good game. well, it would be i mean if it didn't have the worst UI ever designed by a homo sapien. it's quite an honorable testament to the strengths of the game itself and it's awesome exploration and combat system that i actually gritted my teeth and used the game's retarded hotkeys.
game's hard as fuck too. yeah yeah i know, hear me out: like ANY other good party-based turn-based 'crawler even with basic equipment your first random encounter WILL result in a party wipe ifyou play on auto-pilot. to me that means the has a good level of difficulty, not that it is "difficult". anyway i've barely explored the outskirts of the starter town and i've already sadly lost 2 felllow comrades in arms: sonia the red haired bard who died tragically because i didn't know that when you ad(V)ance towards the enemy they get a free round on you; and kramer the valiant barbarian whose -1 AC loincloth was only able to conceal his erection in death due to the barrage of Tiltowait-like stones flung at me from random, identical-twin surly middle-aged villages who take off half my level 1 char's health with 1 punch.
i'm gonna have to do a real serious autohotkey script and fucking remap EVERYTHING before i can play DW for real though. i mean if i can't even use WASD... if it were just a bit less good of a game that alone would be a deal-breaker. but remapping to wasd is easy with autohotkey, it's the rest of the million other keys. ah well. thanks for the recommendation.
btw, just to continue telling anyone who'll listen about how awesomeAutoHotkey program is: i can for example with remap "C" to be the cancel key, which is ESC in devil whiskey (without disabling ESC, you can mirror the key); now if the C key already has a function then one first remaps that function to another key, let's say "Z" for an example, and then mirror the ESC function over to the C key. has to be scripted in that logical sequence obviously otherwise you get a loop.
you can also simply ADD functions to keys without disabling them or remapping them to another key beforehand: if you want to forexample one could make an AHK script that remaps "Q" and "E", each of the two letters to cycle through F1 thru F8 with each press. you press Q one time it's same as pressing f1, then press it again, it's same as pressing f2. then with E you script it to cycle in reverse, first press is f8, etc.
or you can simply script a SHIFT/ALT/CONTROL key and make a combination function if you want. shift + E = normal function (equip item), but then script control + E under those lines to turn the E key into U when you do control + E. that way you can Equip and Unequip gear in devil whiskey without having to travel from the left of the keyboard all the way to the right of the keyboard every time you're accessorizing. there's almost certainly much more efficient examples than the ones i gave i only know the barest of the basics, the basic commands that are in the website. you can actually make AHK scripts that lperform up to 50 functions, complex functions, on 1 single key press as an example.
