Love the book! Been reading it all day instead of doing actual work ;)

Gotta say, even though it might not really be a proper crpg, I kinda miss a mention for Moonstone for the Amiga.

Congrats on releasing the book and thanks to everyone who contributed to it. :salute:
Hoping to see a second edition someday when there'll be enough more discoveries of good (and less known) older RPGs as well as enough recent indie releases that deserve to be there. Hopefully that'll happen in a few years.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll start slowly reading through it and brofisting random posts of contributors whenever I find a great review.

Thank you Felipe for doing this and finishing the project. You are awesome, just as everyone else who contributed.

Now, where is that Codex fundraiser for printing this bad boy?

I hope Planet's Edge gets in as one of the additional games you want to add, I remember it was in your list

A product of only the finest autism. Congratulations on finishing it.

Although, CRPG Book Project is probably not the best name for the finished product?

How come this isn't on the front page felipepepe? You've posted about RPG of the year 2017 so why not about your book? Anyway, congrats and :salute:

The book looks amazing!

I'd really like to get a hard cover printed version of this.. preferably coffee table sized.

Do you have plans to sell hard cover copies of the book or is it up to those of us who want such items to contact a printing shop on our own?

Thank you Felipepe. I was waiting for this book to come out to consider gaming history finished. Now, no more games are actually coming out. If they are not in that book, they do not exist.

felipepepe you are a true bro. :bro:

Incidentally, if you want to try the HN suggestion of putting the source on github to crowdsource proofreading, and need help, feel free to PM me. Seems like pretty decent way of doing it.

Speaking of the fan translation section, some descriptions of games in it completely brush aside the incredibly problematic content in them. I've been around the RPG community/internet long enough to pick up plenty on what kind of content Sengoku Rance is filled with (like straight up child and rape porn) and to see the otherwise incredible book promote this sort of content, without even any warning or mention of it, feels completely wrong. Obviously there's more to the game if it managed to achieve the popularity it did, and for better or worse I suppose it is a significant enough part of PRG history to warrant a mention in a historical reference book (and I'd probably be very interested in playing it, since everything I read about its gameplay sounds great, if there was a version that cut out all of the disgusting content out of it. Or am I just overreacting based on bad info and the game is actually not that bad?). But I can't in any way shape of form agree with it just being there without a gigantic warning of what people are getting into if they choose to play it. Let alone a general recommendation for people who don't generally like Japanese porn games. And then there's two other games that feature pornographic content that I know nothing about. And they seem pretty interesting from the short gameplay description. But without elaboration of just how problematic their content really is, those recommendations are completely meaningless.
Seems like ResetEra doesn't like your problematic content felipepepe

Since he's right, i don't see the problem. Idiot. I guess getting the info a game is a eroge with pedophile content is too much to ask in a review lol?

Same thing with horror, comedy or suspense or other 'soft genres' like that really. Only just a biiit more edgy. Or that school shooting simulator and jfk murder thinguie.

holy fuck do you have a long ignore list

also quite right, Felipe should list every fetish in eroge games so that we know exactly what to ... avoid, yes, I'm going with that

Fine by me. Every kind of true metadata is valuable to make informed decisions. Vore is a trash fetish for example. On a world filled with trash and trash people with terrible taste, filters are needed.

I don't know what kind of pedophile content Rance has since I don't play weeb games, but the review does clearly mention it is an erotic game and that the protagonist abuses women. This guy doesn't want, "oh hey btw this game has rape", he wants "elaboration of just how problematic the content is". And he's perfectly ready to completely dismiss all the recommendations because they don't contain a thesis about "problematic content".

Some people might want a thesis or full censorship, other people want to be warned about stuff like that. Not even all eroges have content like that (i was thinking of Seasons of Sakura but that one has one rape in the trash 'nun' route and is about barely sixteen girls, so ofc it's pedo bait).

I guess a line about 'abuses women' followed by 'but it's a parody!' is enough for you, but i'd prefer the cold clarity of tags. Even one that is super general like 'edgy sexual content' would be enough (among all the also useful others).
