What bugs me a lot, japanese porn games from PC88/PC98 and their late 90s-early 00s PC titles are all lot of fun, especially when you know how to read moonspeak. I'm talking about conventional games with story and gameplay, not hentai simulators ofc. Those are as freakshow as japanese porn. I still hate Illusion for turning away from game series like Des Blood to procedurally generated go make your own fun shit like Artificial Academy 2 or prosperous sex maniac sims.

Oh, and PC88 games by Tecmo Koei (of all nips) are some sinister :prosper:material, don't google them.

Watched a Russian preview of the game from a couple of months ago, the guy said it's exactly like Witcher 3 - if someone is 3 levels higher than you you're dead. If you cause havoc in the city the cops of a much higher level will hunt you down etc.

Pretty shit if true

Fucking hell have they learned nothing? Making immersive sim where some pushovers are like 5-10 lvl and some next to them are 35-40 which look ~same but rip you to shreds in seconds? Artificially restricts exploration with this as well. Yeah, pretty shit if true.

He said the game is not a sandbox with cool systems interacting with each other etc., but rather a static open world with lots of handcrafted quests.

There's lots of handcrafted places you can discover, but chances are you won't find anything interesting to loot in these places or do because they are made specifically for side or plot quests to take place there at some time. That's how i understood it, maybe i'm mistaken.

The point is, if someone is higher level than you, no matter what equipment you're are packing the enemy will be a bulletsponge with high damage

A player can always make his own fun. I remember spending hours parkouring on the rooftops of Novigrad, just to see if I can get here or there. I doubt even the QA have gone through it all.

Yeah, but you needed min-maxed character in the endgame, the guards still could one-shot you due to crazy damage multipliers.

The point is, if someone is higher level than you, no matter what equipment you're are packing the enemy will be a bulletsponge with high damage

Probably one of the first mods will fix that. In Witcher 3 monsters dealt 15x damage to Geralt and he only dealt 0.1x damage to anything 10+ levels above him. That was largely due to the fact almost none of the stats mattered so developers had to put these buffs to disallow players killing innocent NPCs in settlements. In detail: armor values were subtracted from damage received, swords on the other hand were used as a base for + % damage mods to achieve ridiculous amounts of total damage. That's why crit-alchemy builds are the most powerful, they have the most busted perks compared to sword or sign builds. Also I picked armor based on % resist to blunt damage. In NG+ human NPCs were overtuned and could one-shot you if they were using clubs because armors lacked blunt damage resists which directly lowered damage by their % value.

I don't expect Cyberpunk 2077 to be different in that philosophy but I believe an endgame character should easily fend them off if their over-level values are to be disabled or their level will be same as players or constant (Max-Tac always level 50 for example).

Just hype their game up and tell people lies to sell copies?

There are 30 Day refunds on GoG now, no questions asked. This is not a reasonable assumption. I mean they still could have absolutely misplaced confidence in their game but the raw amount of sales is irrelevant if everyone can just return it if it's shit.

let's skip sunken cost for now and at least appreciate that they can be confident of what they made, that is way more than most devs these days would bet on.

If they're so confident then why does every single promo video look like GTA77?

Well because by their standards GTA77 is a more likely success story, and truth to be told, they may sadly be right when it comes to most players.

If it's shit, I certainly won't hesitate to give it back but that is more a comment on the overall decline of expectation when it comes to RPGs not the game itself.

No doubt they have some absurd sales expectations for this game and it's going to be far easier to meet them when they frame it as GTA2077 rather than your usual Action RPG.
Assuming Marcin isn't completely full of shit it's probably going to be another RDR2/Death Stranding situation where a lot of people bitch because the game is considerably more slow burn/mechanic heavy than they were led to believe.

I could easily end up being wrong, but I really don't see how this could possibly live up to the hype they've created. The only game that has been hyped more is probably Half-Life 3 at this point.
I think it's going to see amazing first week sales then drop off like a rock once word of mouth gets around.

Exactly same thing was said for Witcher 3 before its release..and for most people it met or exceeded expectations anyway.
I don't remember Witcher 3 having anywhere near as much hype. CDProjekt was nowhere near as well known.

Not as much as cyberpunk... But after the massive widespread critical and commercial success of codex goty witcher 3, it's only natural that cdprojekts next game would be the most hyped and anticipated rpg ever made.

The Hype is nonsense, you are right in that regard rusty, that is not really a question. If the game is pretty good though only the absolute edgelords will hold it against the game that they have been hyped like this i doubt that it would be badly reflected on the game or the company.

Now if the game is actual shit we will observe the nuclear meltdown... unless the return policies of GoG alleviate that which could be the case imho.

Do you think they'd really do that?
Just hype their game up and tell people lies to sell copies?

To answer your questions above - no, I don't really think they'd blatantly lie just to sell copies. The reason is twofold. First is that they have pretty much everything riding on this game. If they hit the jackpot, they will go into the hall of fame for good, Witcher 4 will be hyped even more and they will swim in cash. If they fail however, they basically are done. You can't tell people that 'it just works' when it really doesn't and expect fans to keep being your fans and buy your next product. It just doesn't work this way.

The second reason is pretty trivial and Lord of Riva explained it pretty well.

I have my own reasons also but I'd like to keep those to myself.
