Only imperial guard? The rumours were for two races. Fans on the forums will be dissapointed, at least the IG are popular. It's going to totally fuck over all the IG mods though. Shame, some of them were the best ones.

Everyone was wanting the Necrons, Tau or Tyranids for a new race (I didn't care about the crappy anime Tau), everyone thought it'd be IG as they had some work done already and one of those three in the expansion. Either way they have fucked over at least a couple of the best mods and dissapointed most the fans. This pack better have a fantastic campign (longer than the first and the first half not a tutorial) and a balanced race.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "Tau"?
(I'll google it i guess)
I played tabletop W40k years ago and we had stuff like Tyrannids etc, but no Tau's. I know about Necrons - they seem a lot like the Borg, right?

No, Tau are anime mecha robot shit sent to hate us all. They ruin the gothic theme. Games Workshop fucking suck.

Oh come off it, they're neat. Besides, there's something extremely sinister about their whole 'Greater Good' agenda.

I dunno, they don't sound like they fit into the whole "decaying future" thing that W40k has goin on. But perhaps I should investigate further before I judge...

I have nothing against mechs themselves -I like the MechWarrior and Heavy Gear games.

You mean they were designed by the George Bush regime? *duck*

Edit: Ahhhh...so thats where the whole Fire Warrior thing comes from!

They are crappy and do not suit the setting. They were shoehorned in to lure the kiddies and the anime and japan fetishists who get boners over that crap. I hope everyone invovled in making them die soon.

It's as bad as all the crap that they put into the FO licence, hairy deathclaws, talking deathclaws, vault zero, warped BOS, ROBOTS EVERYWHERE, bondage girls in the brotherhood. so on and so on. It's the same thing again.

A bit is too much. All the fans of the Tau just love the anime units, you can bet that is what they will expand upon in future too. WH40K will go from gothic to weak anime infected shit. If I had half a chance I'd stick Legend of the Overfiend DVDs up the whole creative team's collective ass until they could taste the shit-stained plastic. They've destroyed another cherished memory. It's like seeing porn versions of your favourite childhood cartoon/comic or hero. All I see now is annoying kids ranting about KEWL MECHA BOTS, instead of the gritty coolness of the 40K universe. If there was any justice the Ordo Hereticus would destroy them all.

Kill the Mutant,
Burn the Heretic,
Purge the Alien.

Oh yeah: I'm right with you on the IG though. I love those cannon fodder. The campaign will hopefully reflect their expendable nature in comparison to the SM.

The tank looks fab. I loved the WW1 style Leman Russ in DoW.

I agree that Tau doesn't fit the theme. They are there so I guess one can wail on them. Maybe grittiness could come from imagining what it would be like if Tau units get demolished or destroyed or something, where the mechas turn into smoldering pieces of scrap.

That is possibly one of the only good uses for them so far. Making the players who use them cry would be the other I guess.

Um, fez, I actually play 40K actually NOW. As in, I'm current with news and releases etc. GW is MORE gothic now than it was throughout the 90s. They have the Tau for Anime-lovers, like you say, just like they have Space Wolves for Viking-lovers. They try to include everything plus the kitchen sink, to appeal to as many players as possible. They do NOT cross-pollinate though. Art-direction is contained within an army.

Their latest release was Codex: Space Marines v4, with a bevy of miniatures to go with it. Those absolutely rock, as you can see in the newTechmarine, for example. Next are Tyranids, and the whole concept is gunning for a MUCH scarier, "aliens"-like approach, instead of the grinning bugs we got in Third edition. After that will be Black Templars, a whole Codex about "Crusading" SM chapters, with Knightly figures and iconography being released to complement that.

Tau are Tau, love them or hate them. They won't cause your Necrons to be less undead-ish, your Chaos to be less perverted-madmen-ish, or your SMs to be less Xenophobic-Dark-Age-ish.

You sicken me.

The Tau make the ickle space marines feel dirty.

I also hate a lot of the crap models they made in recent times, like that defiler for chaos. No where near as cool as the dreadnaught walker was. The golden age is over. all there is to look forward to is endless anime battles as all the kids and japanophiles go over to Tau. I was highly suspicious of the nercons too as they are rip-offs of the old android models, though they did add to it a bit later. I wish they'd stop revising the universe, it often ends up worse when they do, like explaining how the original WH and 40K are connected and explaining the Orky background. I liked the original concept of the Warhammer universe in space. Once they start making 14 year old boys with blue hair and 2 foot long sweat drops on their heads as models you might realise how bad it has gone.

P.S. Bring back beaky marines! Also more gothic stuff, because Astro is in the pay of GW and has been brainwashed. Do not trust him. He will lead you astry into heresy.

you silly girl :)

BTW, the WH and WH40K worlds are not connected. This is the current GW stance, though of course it might (and has before) changed.

You with your Tau fetish. Feast your eyes on Lysander

dude, your shit is WACK!.

I consider it an extremely cheap hobby, after spending 3 years collecting Legend of the Five Rings. Imagine collecting one of these every four months.

I agree with Fez, but he doesn't go far enough. I say end the Necrons (evil androids from Space Hulk! OMG!) as well. And the Tyranids - aliens rip-off - and the Dark Eldar as well. Let's go back to creating Ork Warbands and rolling up the cybernetic implants, and creating genuine Chaos Renegade Warbands from Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness. Those were the days.

Of course, the best bit was creating your own Chaos God in Realms of Chaos: the Lost and the Damned. That was extremely cool.

Those tyranids would make a cool add, kinda like from the movie Aliens. Chaos vs Tyranids would be a nice match to see.

Looks like Blizzard devs were familiar with Warhammer 40k setting when they made Starcraft and the Zerg race.
