Skyway already told you the difference between difficulties.

Yes he did:

Recruit - the difficulty for complete and utter fags or complete newbies to handling keyboard and mouse. It shows you and your enemies on the map, crosshair which detects other people, 3rd person, enemies having red shine around them seen even through trees and other dumbing down
Regular - the difficulty for pussy faggots, slightly less dumbed down (no red shining) but that's about it.
Veteran - the difficulty for true bros. No crosshair, no 3d person, no map markers, no anything. Also known as normal difficulty. US3, US4 and US5 have it, also some Chicago servers.
Mercenary - if you are into BDSM - by all means, join.

And as you know we always play on veteran unless we make a mistake and hook up with Expert. I don't see that on the list.

Basically, I think 3RD person is bullshit. That's all. Level the playing field and all that. I'm guessing that the reason that there are so many 'veteran' servers with 3RD person is for the sniper wankers. That's it.

When I'm crawling through the grass and forget that I can hit 'numpad enter' and see over everything. Well, that's fucked. Show me a Mercenary server, I've never seen one. That should have those crosshair/3RD person options turned off. I thought veteran was that, but I guess not.

Unless I'm mistaken? Of course I'm not mistaken. There are a shitload of servers that claim, 'Veteran' and add (oh, by the way we added the pussy features).

Now I sort through Veteran servers and look for the guys that are kind enough to include in their server name: 3RDP:OFF. Pain in the ass. I like them for doing that, I hate the unlabeled ones that end up being 3RD person bullshit.

I have nothing against 3rd person people that get a 'delight' out of seeing their character, I just don't like the three foot advantage that they get. The FOV is the same, or close enough, it's the height that makes it all come crashing down to a cheesy mechanic.

Just my thoughts.

No, 3rd person is On because of Bethesda immersion LARPers.
I think Mercenary is Expert.

edit
Also, servers with "hardcore" in description are good.

3rd person can be easily abused, for example when looking around corners and over stairways, and that's why I like it when servers disable it.

So are all the airfields deathtraps? I went to the NE one with a bud and despite all of our sneaking and sprinting from cover to cover, we were capped almost immediately by snipers when we approached the tower.

Some info for assault rifles:

M16 range 400 meters, 3 round burst mode. 5.56mm
M4 range 300, full auto. 5.56mm
The M4 is a carbine version of the M16; with a shorter barrel.
Some M4 comes with CCO red-dot sight, which stands for Close Combat Optic.
It is not a 'sniper rifle' and is in fact has shorter range than an M16.
'Scopes' are just another way of aiming instead of iron-sights. Unless a scope comes with magnification, it should not be considered a specialized long-range rifle.

AKM range is 400, full auto. 7.62mm
IRL the Soviet Union thinks a smaller caliber will have better accuracy.
So they made the AK-74 which uses the 5.45 caliber.

AK-74 range 300, full auto. 5.45mm
AKS-74U range 200, full auto. 5.45mm
The AKS-74U is a carbine version of AK-74.

There are other versions of these guns, with different sights, silenced, grenade launchers etc.
Silenced weapons can only use silenced ammo, but normal weapons can use both normal and silenced ammo.

Be careful of picking up hacked weapons, some people have complained that they have been banned for possessing them, they picked them from other players.

I'll take 47 before 74 any day. Louder, but better range and stopping power. Good accuracy too.

Some people get motion sickness playing in first person so I sympathise with the desire but any competitive 1st/3rd person game could resolve this cheating issue if they cared to: apply FP LOS to 3rd person view, ie. dynamic objects outside the FP LOS won't be rendered. Grass that can be players, flattened, pickable objects. And mark the FP LOS in 3rd person with contours so when you're playing in 3rd person, you will know what your actual LOS is.

It's about first fucking person, ie. high amount of focal displacement on screen. Not head bobbing exclusively.

Anyway, I just got single shot to death in a room with a single door on the second floor of the office building in Vybor. In pitch black. I was lying on the floor, pointed at the door, waiting. There are windows but there is no higher vantage point to even see me, let alone aim at me or do a head shot. And my ping was 40-something so I doubt I missed someone coming in through the door. So what's this shit now, hackers?

airfields are usual military gear loot spawns, so yes occupied and guarded well.

Report that shit on the forums.
Luckily, I haven't encountered any cheaters / haxors yet. At least I think I haven't.

Go at night. I've looted entire cities, towns and airfields at near full servers without killing a single zombie or getting fired at.

I've actually come upon an interesting explanation on the offficial forums. The way Arma 2's netcode works, is that everything that happens clientside is automatically treated as correct by the server. Each player does his move, this is sent to the server which proceeds to send it to each one of the players one by one. However if somebody was desynced, his actions are still treated as gospel by the game. So if you shoot someone in such a state it doesn't immediately register on his end due to the delay. So during his time he might actually go inside a house totally clueless about the shot. When he gets back in sync he will die out of nowhere as the shots you fired finally caught up to him BUT his movement is also registered and for you it seems he just disappeared.

So maybe you were just desynced our your shooter was.

Plus when somebody is desynced it actually throws the entire server off balance, as each consecutive player in the netcode chain will experience delays.

Basically people over there aren't very appreciative of ARMA'S netcode.

Any open space is a death trap. When I was checking out NE I was basically crawling under a bush where I could overlook it. Then I looked for bodybags/zombies/agitated zombies.
If there are no body bags, zombies are not agitated and there are many of them that means there are no humans on the airfield. Of course the key phrase is "on the airfield" here.

If you really want to go there you must run and ignore everything until you are able to hide inside a building.

Bodybags? You mean player corpses?

"and there are many of them that means there are no humans on the airfield"

Surely you mean "... there aren't many of them", as player presence spawns zombies.

He's confusing me too, as there is a pile of body bags with flies behind the tower.

I assume too that he means player corpses.

Anyways, last night has been a nightmare for connecting, probably because of E3, we'll now have a few more hundred thousand people trying to connect. Not sure what will happen in the next few days.

Does anyone have video from rocket hitting the trade show?

Off to the industrial area, looking for helicopter parts now.

That map is for people that don't like exploration. Plus it's smeared with yellow. You can probably find everything listed on it by actually walking through the towns.

I'm wondering what it would be like having you in our little group, Villain. I might possibly want to shoot you as you seem like a true dickhead.

Who knows perhaps you'd add a real dynamic to it all. And maybe you're okay once 'you get to know you'. I'm doubting it though.

Skyway, thank you so much for being an Arma2 guy and getting us into it, loved the video. Eventually I'll play it. In the mean time, cheers!

Villain, you know where to find us. I'll give you the benifit of the doubt until you shoot me in the head.
